Recent Lake Wedowee reviews

  • Very relaxing trip! Great Property, and secluded. Owners were very helpful.

"We went with our two daughters and two of their friends for 5 days. The house was great and very comfortable. We grilled out a lot and had fun fishing and swimming from the nice two-story dock. I have just recommended the property to another family member."

  • Perfect In Every Way!

"We came south over Thanksgiving week for our traditional visit with our children who live in Alabama and Georgia. Bobby and Carolyn's home made it a great family union. They were gracious hosts and a fresh baked buttermilk pie was waiting for us in the fridge (VERY yummy). The kitchen was the best stocked of any homes we have rented in the past and the location and view of the lake was beautiful. It was clean and spacious and we hope to visit again soon if we can find an opening! Thank you so much. PS ~ The three bathrooms were a great asset for 7 people as well."

"Nice clean house with lots of sleeping room for families and children. The kitchen was very well stocked with large pots/pans and dishes. My grandchildren loved the toys and books that were there. Great cove with good swimming around the dock and good shade in the afternoon. Hiking up the multiple steps to the dock gives you a great workout but was not a problem."

Lake Wedowee Travel Tips

Lake Wedowee Vacation Rentals on 271 Miles of Shoreline

Mid-way between Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia off Interstate 20 is Lake Wedowee; it is close to State Highway 431 and Alabama Highway 48. It is actually the Harris Reservoir in Randolf County. The reservoir is 24 miles long and was completed in 1983 by R. L. Harris. Lake Wedowee condos are situated around the 271-mile shoreline among over 10,500 acres of forest.

Lake Wedowee Condos in a Peaceful Location to Enjoy Alabama’s Beauty

Lake Wedowee lake houses are great choices for those who are seeking a peaceful vacation in an area perfect for hiking and fishing. The Tallapoosa and Little Tallapoosa Rivers are the main source of water for the lake where visitors can fish for largemouth bass, spotted bass, bluegill, shellcrackers (also known as redear sunfish) catfish and crappie. Activities on the lake include waterskiing, boating and swimming. The nearby river Tallapoosa is a great whitewater rafting area with small shoals ideal for beginners.

Close to Cheaha State Park

An enjoyable day trip from Lake Wedowee vacation rentals is Cheaha State Park. The park is surrounded by the Talladega National Park. The name originates from the local Creek Indians who called it "Chaha" which means high place. The park is thought to be the highest point in Alabama. The park includes several "hiking only" trails. Among these trails are the quarter-mile Bald Road Boardwalk, where hikers are rewarded with stunning views at the end of the trail and Pulpit Rock Trail. This is a moderate hike to Pulpit Rock itself where visitors can repel down the rock or just enjoy the scenery. The most difficult hike is the Rock Garden and Lake Trail. Here, there is a 1,000-foot elevation gain during the first half mile. Recreational activities at Lake Cheaha include swimming, taking out a paddle boat and fishing for bass and bluegill. By the lake is a fabulous adventure playground where children can run wild in a safe multi-station play area. Off roading enthusiasts will enjoy the Kentuck ORV trail, the 107-mile Pinhoti Trail, Odum Scout Trail and Chinnabee Silent Trail. At Chinnabee, stop and wonder at the stunning waterfalls along the route. For those who enjoy horseback riding, there are several trails where riders are welcome to explore. The park welcomes well behaved dogs.

Those with a GPS receiver may want to enjoy the geocashing available in Cheaha State Park to spend a few hours treasure hunting with this increasingly popular outdoor activity. Geocaching is a global game of treasure hunting using GPS to locate the treasure.

Also within an easy distance is the Talladega Superspeedway. For those who have always dreamt of becoming a racing driver, head to Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure and make that dream come true.
