  • Loved it!

"A very beautiful, comfortable off the beaten path cabin in the woods. The cabin is immaculate and well located. Loved, loved, loved the deck. Cooper, the owners dog was a frequent visitor and just a delight. The owners very helpful & accommodating to anything you might need. We were to early for any of the tours they offer this year, but realized later that we had used their company for a Salmon float trip on our previous visit to Alaska. The guys went on and on about that side trip. We would highly recommend their Cabin and their excursions. We will use them on our next visit to this beautiful state!"

  • Absolutely fabulous Alaska vacation!!

"We have been doing VRBO for 15 yrs. We own/manage and DO VRBO as our primary income. This trip could not have been any better! The cabin is great! The cabin is beautifully done, has everything you need, and it is clean (and, yes, I am a critic!). The views are spectacular and the local wildlife is an absolute bonus! We saw caribou on numerous occasions, moose, loons, eagles - we loved it! The views to the lake and the mountains (if it's clear) are amazing! We were here for 3 weeks. The first week of our trip, our son was with us. After he returned to college, it was just the 2 of us. The cabin was perfect for us. The extra special bonus is Ted and Elaina. We have rented from a lot of folks over the years and have never met more wonderful hosts! They are an absolute wealth of information! Anything you want or need - they can definitely help you out! This was a long trip and we felt like we really got to know these guys. You will not find more genuine, generous hosts. They love where they live and they are happy to share it with you. They make you feel like family. Want to show up and be left alone - they will not invade your space. However, we enjoyed the interaction and loved visiting with them. We have never had a more wonderful experience! We WILL be back next fall and cannot wait to stay with Ted and Elaina again! Thank you both for making this such a wonderful trip for our family!"

Soldotna Travel Tips

Enjoy Alaska's Natural Beauty from Soldotna Vacation Rentals

Soldotna is in Alaska's premier summer playground on the central Kenai Peninsula, 140 miles south of Anchorage. Soldotna vacation rentals make the ideal bases for those wanting access to the ocean, rivers and lakes for fishing and the other tourist attractions in this unspoiled area. Soldotna cabins are perfectly located for those looking to fish from their own private fishing deck or just relax while watching the river and wildlife go by. The town of Soldotna borders the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge which is rich in wildlife, birds and fish.

Traveling to Your Soldotna Lodging Is Easy

Most visitors to Soldotna arrive at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and drive the remaining 140 miles (220 kilometers) on the paved highway to Soldotna. A car is essential for getting around the area.

Places to Visit from Your Alaska Vacation Rentals

The first stop for visitors staying in Soldotna vacation rentals is the local visitor information center. It has a fantastic display of photographs taken in the area. It is located on the banks of the famous Kenai River where the world-record king salmon, on display at the center, was caught. Guided walks around Old Town Kenai will point out the local historic landmarks, including the Russian Orthodox Church.

History lovers will enjoy visiting Ninilchik Village where historic buildings can be seen from the 1800s, including the first Russian School House, the Village Store, the Sorensen/Tupper Home and the Bud Dietz home.

The Bluff, at the base of the cliffs at Old Town Kenai, has one of the best beaches in the area. Soft sands, shells and, if you are lucky, sightings of Beluga whales can be seen from here. The Russian River Falls is a great place to see the salmon jumping upstream to their breeding grounds and the wonderful Juneau Falls are a fantastic local attraction.

Things to Do from Soldotna Vacation Rentals

Soldotna is a paradise for fishing enthusiasts and the peak fishing season is from July 15 to August 15 each year. Guided and unguided fishing trips can be made to catch five species of salmon, rainbow trout and halibut.

There are strict fishing seasons for the various fish species. Halibut is from May 1 to September 30. The fishing season for saltwater kings is from May 1 to June 30, and for Kenai kings, it is from May 1 to July 31. Sockeye salmon season is from June 10 to August 20, silver salmon is from August 15 to October 31 and pink salmon is from August 15 to October 31. The official rainbow trout season is from June 15 to October 31 but the best time to fish for them is in September and October.

Take a flying trip for more remote fishing and wildlife viewing or go whale watching and have a close encounter with many other marine mammals which call this pristine region their home. Birdwatching and wildlife viewing can be enjoyed from the porch of your Soldotna lodging. Moose, bears, caribou, waterfowl and countless soaring eagles can often be seen in the area. Explore the local waterways by canoe, go hiking or dig for fresh clams at Clam Gulch Recreational Park. Walkers can enjoy the many marked trails to Headquarters Lake or take a stroll around the old town. A scenic drive is the best way to see the breathtaking peaks of Mount Spurr and Mount Redoubt.

Local Weather at Your Soldotna Cabins

During the summer, Soldotna has pleasant temperatures of around 60 F and above, with rain increasing as September approaches. Temperatures drop throughout the fall to 20 F during December. March sees temperatures rise above freezing during the day. Those visiting in September and October will find the fall colors quite outstanding, and trout and silver salmon fishing at its very best.
