  • It worked wonderfully

"We had a family of 10. Once we turn the master closet into an extra kid room the place fit us very nicely. Turned a sofa around so we could look at the view. Owners were amazingly open to help."

  • Perfection

"Just returned from our annual 2 week trip to Alaska, and our first stay in Palmer, and the Shire House was the best place we stayed on this trip. In fact, it ranks as one of our favorite places we've EVER stayed in Alaska. The pictures are very accurate, but make the house look a bit older than it really looks in person. Everything was modern and clean, and the house is huge! We didn't even get a chance to use the loft game room, but we did play a lot of pool one evening, when we just felt like "hanging out". Dave is a tremendouse host, who gave us an initial tour of the house and then gave us our privacy. The location is legitimate "country" - away from the stoplights of Palmer (but a short, 10 minute drive). The horses across the driveway were beautiful, and we even got the chance to feed and pet 2 of them, when a neighbor came out. Our only regret was that we had not booked more nights! We certainly hope to return..."

  • Palmer, AK apartment

"The apartment was lovely. Our host provided soaps, shampoo and everything you could need for your stay. We spent our time making day trips and coming back to sleep. Cecilia was very gracious and provided us with fresh eggs every morning. I would stay there again."

  • What a wonderful place to kick back and relax!

"This place has everything you need and is truly a home away from home. It is located close to Anchorage, Palmer and Wasilla. The gourmet kitchen's window and outside deck have the best views of Canoe lake and surrounding mountains. Our family loved the fact that there were toys for children and adults alike; badminton, canoes, paddle boat, fishing gear, bikes, etc plus an extensive library of wonderful books by Alaskan authors. The Wildlife Conservation Center near Gridwood is a must see if you want to look at Brown Bears, eagles, moose, muskox and all the other large and small animals native to Alaska. Watch for Beluga whales as you drive down that way. You can get up close to glaciers and visit an old mining town as well as ride a tram, fish the rivers and lakes, tour the small towns or just drive and marvel at the magnificent scenery. Would definitely recommend this home and look forward to coming back for another visit to Alaska. Thanks:-)"

Palmer Travel Tips

The Beauty of Palmer Cabins

Palmer, Alaska is a part of the Anchorage Metropolitan Statistical Area. With a population of over 8,000 people, the small-town feel is not lost on this quaint region. Here are a few reasons to plan a visit to beautiful Palmer.

Getting the full Palmer experience begins with choosing a place to stay. Palmer cabins offer the creature comforts of home for any traveller who enjoys a cozy place to rest. Whether lounging with a lakeside view or watching wildlife unfold quietly just outside the door, finding the perfect vacation rental is a wonderful asset on any holiday. Palmer lodging offers a unique vacation experience from the moment the day beings.

Statewide Appeal

Palmer lodging is the perfect home base for attending Palmer's annual Alaska State Fair. The fair attracts hundreds of thousands through its gates each year. Even President John F. Kennedy walked through the fairgrounds during its 25th Anniversary in 1960. The fairgrounds are located in Palmer's Matanuska-Susitna Valley and broke world records in 2009 with an 82.9 pound rutabaga. The fair is held during the end of August through early September. Munch on the freshest Alaskan seafood, soak up native arts and crafts on display and head home to Alaska vacation rentals after a day of fun. The AT&T Borealis Concert series has drawn such well-known performers such as Ted Nugent, Hinder, and David Archuletta.

American Pastimes

During a summer stay, come cheer on the Mat-Su Miners. This hometown team in the Alaska Baseball League was founded in 1976. Mat-Su (Matanuska-Susitna) Miners Inc. is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization focused on the perpetuation of the sport. Another activity to add to the to-do list is racing. A visit to the IHRA Alaska Raceway Park will make any drag racing enthusiast happy. Tranquil fishing and nature viewing are two other amazing aspects that these Palmer cabins put you near.
