  • Rustic Alaskan beauty

"The Kilcher Homestead cabin was the answer to what we were looking for, wildlife, glaciers, peace and quiet, fun and laughs. We had beach fires everyday and ended up cooking our dinners over an open flame nightly. The cabin was adorable and met our needs totally. The wood burning, old but beautiful, worked for breakfasts and the percolator coffee was fun and brought back memories of my childhood. Everything was there that we needed and we just brought what food and beverage we thought we would want. The atv ride to the cabin was a great intro to a great place, thanks for having us. My wife, my son and I loved our stay."

  • Sweet Haven with Ocean Breezes

"I stay here every time I need a dose of tranquility. The cottage is set in a spruce forest, overlooking a slice of ocean views across the way. The abode is on the second story, is private and cozy. Inside there is no pretensions, nice decor, comfortable bed with a scandanavian flair. The ships ladder up to the bedroom was easy to navigate. It is well equipped for cooking, bathing and lounging next to the woodstove. Best of all is the in town location, near the road to the Homer Spit, and just minutes to restaurants and art galleries. Bring a bike and an adventurous spirit!!"

  • "I was pleasently surprised when I arriveed at Lakeside Villa. The view of the lake is stunning and the house is just a few feet from the lake. The inside of the house was warm and inviting with an entry porch and a very nice kitchen just inside and to the left. The living room was comfortable with a view of the patio, the hot tub, grille, table and the lake. We stayed 12 nights and would like to have stayed longer. it is only about 10min. to Kenai and the river. While we were there we saw at least 5 moose and 3 moose babies. We saw 2 bear cubs, a carabou and many bald eagles. The beds were comfortable and the burgundy linen is new. The Hot Tub was very warm and comfortable. There were 8 in our party and that made the rate very resonable for each of us. We will come back."

"Great Place to stay!!! The cabin was very well equipped with all the items needed for a home away from home. All the amenities were new and in excellent condition. The furnishings and home decor were very well thought out and added to the vacation experience. Great fishing nearby and lots of sightseeing activities! View of the snow capped mountains can be seen from the cabin and enjoyed weather permitting. I would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay to friends and family for future trips!"

Getting to Alaska Vacation Rentals

Most people will fly to Alaska; the primary airport hub is in Anchorage. During the summer months, there are direct daily flights between Anchorage and other major United States cities such as Denver, Minneapolis St. Paul, Portland, Salt Lake City, Dallas Ft. Worth, Atlanta, Seattle and San Francisco. From Canada, there are frequent flights from Vancouver and Toronto. Alaska is popular vacation destination for travelers from Europe and the Far East. There are regular commercial flights from Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and also Frankfurt in Germany. From Anchorage, you can get domestic flights to your destination.

Sometimes if the area you are visiting is more remote, you will need to travel by seaplane or ferry to get there. The road and rail network in Alaska is limited by the rugged glacial terrain but still provides good access to most major towns and tourist attractions. Alaska is a destination where it is helpful to have some time to spare. The landscapes are so beautiful that it is sometimes worth taking the time to enjoy rather than rushing from place to place.

Activities and Attractions at Alaska Cabins

Alaska is an adventure and outdoor haven which may be surprising to some, considering the cold climate the state experiences. In both summer and winter, there are a host of great activities that can keep you occupied on your travels. Wherever you go, you will want to take your camera with you to capture the action and great scenery. Some of the great winter attractions are the Northern Lights and the Aurora Borealis. This natural light phenomenon is amazing to see. Alaska has a number of top-quality ski resorts that offer downhill and cross country skiing. Many have snowboarding terrain parks and fun ski schools for kids. Snowmobiles are commonly used to get around in the winter months. It is a popular sport too.

The more traditional way to explore the countryside is by dog sledding. The dogs are superbly trained and exceptionally fast. This is an amazing experience. There are several places in Alaska where you can go whitewater rafting on grade IV and V rapids. Be prepared for the ride of your life on the churning white waters. For paddlers, there are many kayaking opportunities. You can also test your skills in the white waters or opt for something a little more leisurely up the fjords or along the coast. In season, you can experience amazing whale, dolphin and orca sightings and get up close to these magnificent creatures of the sea. There are endless hiking opportunities in Alaska. Serious mountaineers travel to Alaska each year to conquer Denali which is North America’s tallest peak. Alaska also has a rich gold mining history and many of the museums tell tales of the early gold pioneers.
