  • Great trip with high school classmates of 1969

"Red Dawg Retreat was a great vacation home. We travel often, and the accommodations were beyond what we expected. Our group of three couples had plenty of space to enjoy our time there. The kitchen was well equipped, beds comfortable and the entire house clean. The owner and property manager were extremely helpful and answered all our questions. Renting the Suburban was necessary for us to be able to get to the streams and rivers to do our salmon fishing. The fishing map posted on the wall was very helpful. Coffman Cove is a small town, but everyone we met was friendly and informative. We would definitely recommend this rental to anyone that is interested in this type of Alaska experience."

  • Nice cabin at a great price.

"I stayed at this cabin for 8 days. It was clean and comfortable, nice amenities, and a nice location. The owners were very accommodating and available if I needed them. I was able to fish and get a lot of rest at this peaceful place."

  • Great place to relax after a day of hiking/biking/exploring

"We had a great stay in this apartment, I went with my family and we had everything we needed. The apartment is in between the Valley and Downtown so a good base to get wherever you're going, plus from this place you can walk to the Salmon Creek trail. It rained most of our stay so it was nice to have somewhere to come back to with a living room to relax (and a dryer!). We didn't have much interaction with the owners but they were helpful with any questions we had. Kitchen was fully stocked and served our needs, the place was clean and lived up to it's description. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a place to escape after a day of hiking/biking/exploring Juneau!"

  • Perfect location and stellar lodge!

"Thank you for opening this beautiful home for us to rent. The location was perfect for us, it had all the amenities plus all the fine touches anyone could ask for. Everything worked beautifully and Audrey was available when I had any questions. I recommend this for any age and for large families. We felt very welcome, Audrey met us at the house to show us around and had smoked salmon, crackers, and cream cheese with chives for us. A wonderful welcome. The beds were comfortable, lots of hot water. And plenty of space. It was immaculately clean and we would rent here again in a minute. Thank you for the sincere hospitality."

Alaska Travel Tips

Getting to Alaska Vacation Rentals

Most people will fly to Alaska; the primary airport hub is in Anchorage. During the summer months, there are direct daily flights between Anchorage and other major United States cities such as Denver, Minneapolis St. Paul, Portland, Salt Lake City, Dallas Ft. Worth, Atlanta, Seattle and San Francisco. From Canada, there are frequent flights from Vancouver and Toronto. Alaska is popular vacation destination for travelers from Europe and the Far East. There are regular commercial flights from Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and also Frankfurt in Germany. From Anchorage, you can get domestic flights to your destination.

Sometimes if the area you are visiting is more remote, you will need to travel by seaplane or ferry to get there. The road and rail network in Alaska is limited by the rugged glacial terrain but still provides good access to most major towns and tourist attractions. Alaska is a destination where it is helpful to have some time to spare. The landscapes are so beautiful that it is sometimes worth taking the time to enjoy rather than rushing from place to place.

Activities and Attractions at Alaska Cabins

Alaska is an adventure and outdoor haven which may be surprising to some, considering the cold climate the state experiences. In both summer and winter, there are a host of great activities that can keep you occupied on your travels. Wherever you go, you will want to take your camera with you to capture the action and great scenery. Some of the great winter attractions are the Northern Lights and the Aurora Borealis. This natural light phenomenon is amazing to see. Alaska has a number of top-quality ski resorts that offer downhill and cross country skiing. Many have snowboarding terrain parks and fun ski schools for kids. Snowmobiles are commonly used to get around in the winter months. It is a popular sport too.

The more traditional way to explore the countryside is by dog sledding. The dogs are superbly trained and exceptionally fast. This is an amazing experience. There are several places in Alaska where you can go whitewater rafting on grade IV and V rapids. Be prepared for the ride of your life on the churning white waters. For paddlers, there are many kayaking opportunities. You can also test your skills in the white waters or opt for something a little more leisurely up the fjords or along the coast. In season, you can experience amazing whale, dolphin and orca sightings and get up close to these magnificent creatures of the sea. There are endless hiking opportunities in Alaska. Serious mountaineers travel to Alaska each year to conquer Denali which is North America’s tallest peak. Alaska also has a rich gold mining history and many of the museums tell tales of the early gold pioneers.
