  • Awesome retreat in Anchorage!!

"We had a great stay in Alaska! Your recently updated home was very clean and well organized. Lovely linens and a well appointed kitchen. Separate laundry room with full size W/D. Many thoughtful touches. Easy entry for late arrival. We enjoyed having the use of the little cooler for our day trips. You thought of everything! Your attention to detail and professionalism definitely set you apart. We will be back next year!!"

"My husband and I chose Homer as our vacation spot to spend with our son who lives in Anchorage. We are glad we did, quirky little town with beautiful views. And this lovely home had the best views of all, quiet, clean, and had lots of space for the three of us. We are telling our friends about it and if we return to Homer we will for sure stay here again. The owners were gracious and kind and were prompt to respond with a couple of inquiries we had. Lots of good places to eat, and galleries to visit, trails. were close and views magnificent."

  • Wonderful Cabin, Wonderful Host!

"While planning our 17 day trip to Alaska, I read about the Matanuska Glacier and thought it might be fun to check it out. In order to visit, we needed to find a place to stay the night, and I found Wendy's cabins on VRBO. It looked fabulous online, and when we pulled up, it was exactly as I hoped it would be. As we pulled in, Wendy was on the hill waving so we'd know where to pull in. There were about 7 Dall sheep up on the mountain across the road and we watched them for while. The cabins are beautiful. Wendy's art is on the wall and it's all fabulous. The beds are comfortable and the views from the deck are incredible. The kids never said a word about not being able to watch tv - my son sat outside and looked at the sheep with his binoculars and I taught my daughter how to crochet. Wendy does weekend workshops making silk scarves and she invited my daughter and I to come to her studio to see what she and two women who were staying in another cabin had made that weekend. The scarves were amazing! I would fly to Alaska just to do one of her weekend workshops and make some of my own, while also taking in the beautiful scenery around her cabin. The screened in fire pit near our cabin was an added bonus, but since we were only there one night, we didn't make use of it. The bathrooms and showers were immaculately clean. We planned to hike the glacier with Wendy the following morning, but it was raining pretty hard and we decided to head down to Seward instead. The drive to and from Wendy's cabins on the Glenn Highway is spectacular and not to be missed. We also appreciated Wendy's recommendation for dinner and breakfast at the Sheep Mountain Lodge, just a little way down the road. Both meals were fantastic. If you're planning a trip to the Matanuska Glacier, this is a perfectly relaxing and scenic place to stay, and you won't find a better host."

Alaska Travel Tips

Getting to Alaska Vacation Rentals

Most people will fly to Alaska; the primary airport hub is in Anchorage. During the summer months, there are direct daily flights between Anchorage and other major United States cities such as Denver, Minneapolis St. Paul, Portland, Salt Lake City, Dallas Ft. Worth, Atlanta, Seattle and San Francisco. From Canada, there are frequent flights from Vancouver and Toronto. Alaska is popular vacation destination for travelers from Europe and the Far East. There are regular commercial flights from Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and also Frankfurt in Germany. From Anchorage, you can get domestic flights to your destination.

Sometimes if the area you are visiting is more remote, you will need to travel by seaplane or ferry to get there. The road and rail network in Alaska is limited by the rugged glacial terrain but still provides good access to most major towns and tourist attractions. Alaska is a destination where it is helpful to have some time to spare. The landscapes are so beautiful that it is sometimes worth taking the time to enjoy rather than rushing from place to place.

Activities and Attractions at Alaska Cabins

Alaska is an adventure and outdoor haven which may be surprising to some, considering the cold climate the state experiences. In both summer and winter, there are a host of great activities that can keep you occupied on your travels. Wherever you go, you will want to take your camera with you to capture the action and great scenery. Some of the great winter attractions are the Northern Lights and the Aurora Borealis. This natural light phenomenon is amazing to see. Alaska has a number of top-quality ski resorts that offer downhill and cross country skiing. Many have snowboarding terrain parks and fun ski schools for kids. Snowmobiles are commonly used to get around in the winter months. It is a popular sport too.

The more traditional way to explore the countryside is by dog sledding. The dogs are superbly trained and exceptionally fast. This is an amazing experience. There are several places in Alaska where you can go whitewater rafting on grade IV and V rapids. Be prepared for the ride of your life on the churning white waters. For paddlers, there are many kayaking opportunities. You can also test your skills in the white waters or opt for something a little more leisurely up the fjords or along the coast. In season, you can experience amazing whale, dolphin and orca sightings and get up close to these magnificent creatures of the sea. There are endless hiking opportunities in Alaska. Serious mountaineers travel to Alaska each year to conquer Denali which is North America’s tallest peak. Alaska also has a rich gold mining history and many of the museums tell tales of the early gold pioneers.

Home Comforts at Alaska Lodging

When you visit a destination as beautiful as Alaska, you won’t be spending much time in your accommodation facilities.
