  • Superior and Fantastic

"10 of us stayed here for a week. It as an amazing experience fishing out the back door! We traveled into town for fishing trips and down to Homer 3 times (about 2hours each way) for some offshore Halibut. Each man bought back 70lbs of filets thats right 700lbs of fish!!!! The sad thing is we missed the Salmon run by a week.. but the accomodations more than made up for it. Great touches and details in the house this will be my only choice next time. My son said his favorite memories were laughing with the men on the river and catching his first Halibut. priceless Thanks Mark from SC"

  • Beautiful house!

"My husband, sister and I stayed in the house for about a week while visiting Homer. The house was clean and the furniture was comfy...as well as the beds. Loved the big tile shower in the bathroom! There is a big beautiful kitchen that unfortunately it was not well equipped. We did notify the property management company that we had no large pots or large frying pan...and they responded quickly...sending someone out with a couple of items. Unfortunately, they brought a small saucepan and a 13 x 9 baking pan. He said it was all the local store had (which really was the case). Hopefully they will supply better inventory for future guests. We would have loved to do some cooking but were unable. The deck is great with a small table and two chairs...with another two Adirondak chairs. We also enjoyed the upstairs loft for board games and taking in more views. Laundry facilities were very useful and in good working order. The bedrooms do not have dressers...this wasn't a problem for the master bedroom as the closet has shelves. My sister had to put her clothes on the extra bed. There was a dresser up in the loft that would have been better if it were in the guest room. Plenty of closet space! We had a few really rainy days and would have loved to have a DVD player to watch a movie or two. Do not let the critiques scare you away! We would return to The Seaside Escape in a heartbeat! It is a beautiful house with awesome views....lots of brochures, Alaska magazines and books. Very convenient to the town."

  • Greatest Experience

"We had the most wonderful time here. Mostly due to Rocky's homey condo and his gracious help and kindness. He made sure we were well provided for and had info on all kinds of things to do in Alaska. We had originally rented a car but canceled since we found no need for it. Visitors center was a block away. Short taxi to Fred Myer got us our groceries (condo was already well stocked and very homey!) Transportation to zoo, cruises,, etc., was just outside the front door and tour office just out the front door! Great places to eat and just walk to with a great jazz band at one of the Sat/Sun festivals just outside the door. Condo was clean, safe and well maintained. Our trip would have been a great trip but Rocky's help and genuine hospitality was the icing on the cake. Sorry he doesn't have more condos to rent out. He was a very big part of our trip and hope to stay in touch with him. Let him know if he's ever around our place, please let us know. Would be honored to have him as our GUEST!"

Alaska Travel Tips

Getting to Alaska Vacation Rentals

Most people will fly to Alaska; the primary airport hub is in Anchorage. During the summer months, there are direct daily flights between Anchorage and other major United States cities such as Denver, Minneapolis St. Paul, Portland, Salt Lake City, Dallas Ft. Worth, Atlanta, Seattle and San Francisco. From Canada, there are frequent flights from Vancouver and Toronto. Alaska is popular vacation destination for travelers from Europe and the Far East. There are regular commercial flights from Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and also Frankfurt in Germany. From Anchorage, you can get domestic flights to your destination.

Sometimes if the area you are visiting is more remote, you will need to travel by seaplane or ferry to get there. The road and rail network in Alaska is limited by the rugged glacial terrain but still provides good access to most major towns and tourist attractions. Alaska is a destination where it is helpful to have some time to spare. The landscapes are so beautiful that it is sometimes worth taking the time to enjoy rather than rushing from place to place.

Activities and Attractions at Alaska Cabins

Alaska is an adventure and outdoor haven which may be surprising to some, considering the cold climate the state experiences. In both summer and winter, there are a host of great activities that can keep you occupied on your travels. Wherever you go, you will want to take your camera with you to capture the action and great scenery. Some of the great winter attractions are the Northern Lights and the Aurora Borealis. This natural light phenomenon is amazing to see. Alaska has a number of top-quality ski resorts that offer downhill and cross country skiing. Many have snowboarding terrain parks and fun ski schools for kids. Snowmobiles are commonly used to get around in the winter months. It is a popular sport too.

The more traditional way to explore the countryside is by dog sledding. The dogs are superbly trained and exceptionally fast. This is an amazing experience. There are several places in Alaska where you can go whitewater rafting on grade IV and V rapids. Be prepared for the ride of your life on the churning white waters. For paddlers, there are many kayaking opportunities. You can also test your skills in the white waters or opt for something a little more leisurely up the fjords or along the coast. In season, you can experience amazing whale, dolphin and orca sightings and get up close to these magnificent creatures of the sea. There are endless hiking opportunities in Alaska. Serious mountaineers travel to Alaska each year to conquer Denali which is North America’s tallest peak. Alaska also has a rich gold mining history and many of the museums tell tales of the early gold pioneers.

Home Comforts at Alaska Lodging

When you visit a destination as beautiful as Alaska, you won’t be spending much time in your accommodation facilities. When you do return at the end of a day, it is nice to feel at home in your surroundings. Vacation homes offer the benefit of privacy and having your own lounge to relax in at the end of a busy day. Relax in front of a roaring fireplace with a guidebook and brochures to plan the next day’s activities.

Visitors to Alaska

Alaska attracts a wide range of visitors. Some come simply to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and wildlife viewing. Others come to participate in as many outdoor adventures as possible. Still others come to learn about the rich gold mining and pioneering history that Alaska has.
