The main travel hub in the North Central Arizona is Flagstaff. Located approximately 58 miles south of the Grand Canyon and 174 miles north of Phoenix, it is the largest residential community in the region. Flagstaff boasts its own regional airport which hosts domestic flights from Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Denver, among other cities. If traveling from further afield, you may need to route via one of these travel hubs before connecting on to Flagstaff. If you are traveling by road, you will find Flagstaff easy to get to as it sits as a major intersection of highways from the south, east and west. Traveling time from Phoenix is between two to three hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Las Vegas to Flagstaff is a slightly longer travel distance and follows the southern section of the Grand Canyon.

Arizona is a state that is known for its warm climate. Even in the winter months, you can enjoy warm sunshine almost every day. The north central part of Arizona is at an altitude of between 2,000 and 3,000 meters; because of this, seasonal temperatures are milder than in other parts of Arizona. This means that during the summertime, you can enjoy a wide variety of activities without feeling as though you will get scorched by the summer sun. You still need to have adequate sun protection of hats and sunscreen and make sure you drink plenty of water. Towards the end of summer, from July to mid-September, you can expect the occasional thunderstorm. The winter months are relatively short-lived, lasting only a month or two from November through December. Daytime temperatures can still be pleasantly warm but after the sun sets, the temperatures can plummet to below freezing. Ideally, you should dress in layers so you are not caught unprepared for the sudden temperature changes. Some snowfalls can occur in winter. Spring runs from January to April, and is one of the most pleasant seasons to visit. Fall season is also particularly beautiful as the turning leaves blend in with the red rock landscapes.
