Lovely, charming, high-end cabin in ideal location
"I spent and inordinate amount of time searching through every hotel, rental property, and alternative accommodation in the Big Sur area before concluding that this cabin was an absolute standout and the ideal choice. I wanted to be very close hiking and not to have to do much driving once we arrived. And, coming down from the San Francisco peninsula, I did not want to go to the far end of BigSur but be in the middle of things and wanted to visit Nepenthe as a part of the trip.
While we initially felt this cabin was out of our price range, once I compared it to every other option available, it was clear it was an excellent value. In addition, because we had a kitchen, we had the pleasure and savings of being able to prepare simple meals right there. It is set up so you can prepare more elaborate meals, but we didn't want to take the time to do this.
It was such a pleasure to hang out in the high-end living room, bedroom, and take advantage of the lovely bathroom. It was cozy in front of the extremely easy to operate fireplace. And the views of the windows and to the skylights of the redwoods are outstanding.
We walked down to the beautiful beach at the bottom of the road twice in our three nights there. We hiked trails very close by, had breakfast once at the Big Sur lodge and once at the Big Sur bakery. We had a special meal at Nepenthe which is absolutely not to be missed. What a setting! Heading to the pleasure, I had taken out a book from the library about the history of Nepenthe and it was fascinating to read while visiting.
Well we did not meet Linda, she was a phone call away and I had to call her when I broke the key in the door. She was supportive and helpful and said she would take care of it all which she did.
We had a lovely time and I think this is by far the best place to stay in Big Sur."

"When we arrived it was raining and foggy. Much needed for California right now so we were happy for the residents and plants. Since the view was only thick fog, we investigated the cabin and fell instantly in love with it. It has so much charm and personality, if it were in the middle of the forest without a beautiful view of the ocean we would have been happy. The property was everything we hoped it would be, in fact better than the pictures. After we were there for about 15 minutes, the rain let up and the fog began to roll out. Before our eyes, this amazing view came into focus like waking from a dream. I'm telling you, the pictures don't do it justice. We spent three days at big Sur Cabin and wish it were three weeks! We will definitely return. Lois was great! We never saw Gail so if you are concerned that you won't have privacy because of the on site caretaker, don't be. Her gardening skills are most obvious and the cabin was beautifully clean so she take great care of the property. We have never done a VRBO before but this experience was nothing but positive so we will do it again in the future, most certainly at Big Sur Cabin."

Magical canyon trailer for a woman traveling alone
"The canyon and the trailer will instantly become your happy place. I read two novels, wrote letters, hiked down into the magical canyon, feel asleep each night to the sound of the stream and awoke to the chatter of the morning birds, feasted on the most delicious fresh eggs from the hens (otherwise known as the "Henriettas"). All this, and I was only there two nights, and one full day (NOT ENOUGH!!!). I wanted a place to get away -- to get completely away, from the demands of my job, from the constant buzzing of the internet and my phone. To find my own voice again away from the clutter of my city life. As a woman traveling alone, there might be concerns going to a remote cabin like this. There is nothing to worry about -- Richard is a kind and gracious host, as respectful of the privacy of his guests as he is of the wondrous nature around him. He really cares about his land and the creatures that inhabit it, and while I was one of those, I felt cared for too-- not directly per se, but through the touches Richard has done to build this place of respite. From showering outdoors while staring at the sparkling sea, to the best bathtub ever -- you are literally bathing on the edge of splendor. The trailer is a perfect space, cleanly and softly decorated, well equipped for cooking! It is all, in a word, magical. We hear that word too much -- the trailer on the cliff -- it really really is that. Pure magic. Now, when can I go back?"
