  • Blissful home

"My husband and I have recently returned from our fourth stay at Artist's Cottage which tells you that we love it. We could spend hours just watching the ocean from the huge windows in the bedroom and looking for whales. We have been coming to Cambria for nearly 40 years and it remains a charming friendly town."

"We stayed at "Sounds of the Surf" in May, 2014 and had a truly wonderful time. The home was well equipped and spotless and was perfect for our group of 5 adults and 2 children. We enjoyed he views of the ocean and the sounds of the surf. We also enjoyed walking the trails of the nearby, ocean front park. The home is very close to the Hearst Castle, Morro Bay, Passo Robles, and the lovely Montana de Oro State Park. We will return to stay here again!"

  • Anniversary Retreat 2015

"Honestly, I would like to keep this place a secret so that we can return on a whim. However, that wouldn't be fair to the rest of you. This is our new favorite get away cottage in Cambria and the overall is truly a 5* rating. The privacy, surroundings, access, and quaintness are just a few of the highlights. The interior is tight but every area has been arranged to maximize the amount of space. The amenities are numerous and the stock (condiments and necessities) and utensils are assigned to their areas perfectly, again making the best use of space. We enjoyed our breakfast and coffee on the deck, day trips to Big Sur and wineries, the daily visits from the local deer herd, and stars at night through the sky lights. We can't wait to return!"

  • Warm, welcoming, and one of a kind

"My wife and I spent a wonderful week here based on a great review by our friend, and we couldn't have been happier with our decision! The house immediately felt like home, and we look forward to visiting again. The first thing that you see when you arrive -- after a steep climb past the historic and quirky Nit Wit Ridge –– is a simple garage with a flat roof and slanted door, framed by palm trees, with nothing behind it but sky. As you descend the many stairs (worth every step!) down the hillside, sections of the staggered house are revealed, as are glimpses of the coast. The wide open lot to the right, which is bordered by a wooded ravine, was an unexpected bonus: no neighbors in sight, a fawn visited almost every night, and turkeys arrived each morning to devour the birdseed (provided!) that we put out. The multi-level house, with its many interesting angles and spaces and skylights framed by thick wood beams and rafters, is full of character and endlessly inviting. Cozy fireplace/TV room with built-in seating on the lowest level; dining area and well-appointed modern kitchen and super sunny sun room with million dollar views on the main level; a relaxing loft-like den full of books and warm light a few steps up; a cute bedroom and convenient bathroom with shower comes next; and on the top floor, a spacious master bedroom with wide, tall banquette windows, and a deluxe en suite bath with glass shower and deep whirlpool tub. There are sweeping views of Cambria's Main Street far below, and the hills and ocean beyond, from both rooms. (Make sure to catch the sunset from the romantic, semi-secret little balcony!) Leave the windows open, and the distant sound of crashing waves will lull you to sleep. Finally, there's a large, tree-shaded deck just off the dining area that features a huge hot tub with powerful jets, a table and chairs, a charcoal grill, and a pair of lounges. The neighboring houses are pretty close on this side, but we rarely felt too crowded or uncomfortable. If you have time after checking out Cambria's antique shops, boutiques, and restaurants — and maybe Moonstone Beach and Hearst Castle -- we highly recommend making the short drive down the coast to Morro Bay, with a stop in Cayucos along the way. Epic scenery, an endless beach, and a boardwalk and marina full of places to eat, drink, and shop. (To access the big beach north of Morro Rock, turn right onto the unmarked dirt road that’s just past the main entrance to the park.)"
