  • Blacks Beach Retreat

"We are a family of three and stayed at the Blacks Beach Retreat to serve as a home base for our visits to UC Santa Cruz, Monterey Aquarium, and Big Sur. The house was a perfect haven for us to return to each afternoon, and there is nothing like falling asleep to the sound of the crashing waves each night. The house is roomy, clean, and has pretty much everything one needs for a vacation near the beach. The state beach itself is just a few hundred feet away from the house and there are also restaurants, a small market and even a farmers market (on Sunday) just down the street to make things very convenient. We would definetly stay here again and want to thank Laurie (who is great to deal with) for extending her home to us as we had a great time at the Blacks Beach Retreat!"

  • Great Thanksgiving getaway

"I rented this property for our family Thanksgiving getaway. In all, we had two adult couples and one child. For this amount of people there was plenty of room. The downstairs living spaces were well lit and comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with just about everything you would need for cooking utensils and pots and pans. There are even lots of cooking spices in case you forgot to bring something. The furniture provides plenty of space for everyone to sit comfortably. The bedrooms are all upstairs and are also very comfortable and the master bedroom has views of the ocean. At the third floor is access to a rooftop deck that looks out towards the beach. It was a great place to hang out and watch the sun rise and set. At the front of the house there is also a patio with table and chairs that is a good spot for eating outside. The outside of the property is well maintained and clean. The driveway is a bit small; it was a tight fit for an SUV and a small car without encroaching on the sidewalk. On sunny days, street parking during the day was not very available due to beachgoer traffic. Overall the property itself was just what we were looking for. As far as the locations, it is excellent. It's about two houses down and across the street from the beach access. It is also about a 15 minute wall to the Boardwalk. You just have to walk a couple blocks over and cross the river on the pedestrian path on the train trestle."

  • Perfect Getaway

"Our stay in this Santa Cruz house was incredible. There were 8 of us, visiting as a college reunion. The location is great - it is quaint, but close to Mission Blvd, and walkable to downtown Santa Cruz. We ended up having breakfast at Cafe Brasil twice, which is a short walk (highly recommended!). Besides the close attractions, we found ourselves spending quite a bit of time in the house - what a great space! We had dinner in the dining room one night, easily fitting the 8 of us. We had breakfast out on the patio one morning, and a campfire out back. The only issue with 8 people as opposed to 6 is that the pull-out bed wasn't super comfortable, so 6 of us were well rested, and two weren't. If you have 6 people, you'll have no problem, and if you have 8, I say it's worth it anyway! The washer had just been fixed for us before we arrived - Mara was a great host and very on top of the needs of the house and her guests."

  • Great Location to Experience Santa Cruz

"We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. The location is great, it's walkable to both the wharf and downtown areas. It provided us a great central location to explore the surrounding area (Big Basin, Ano Nuevo, etc). The cottage itself was very comfortable and clean, and it had everything we needed for having breakfast and tea. The check-in and check-out procedures were a breeze, and the owner was very friendly in our communication. Should our travels bring us back to Santa Cruz, we will definitely book again."
