  • A Cozy Get-Away

"This is a great place to stay in the Santa Cruz area if you are looking for quiet and privacy (and a good$$ deal). The property has several vacation apartments, nestled on beautiful, forested land. The owner says he built the cabins from wood he harvested and milled himself. They are charming. We stayed in the "Love Shack". This is a attic apartment with steeply arched ceilings - so you have to watch your head. Despite the 70s-ish suggestive name, there is nothing overtly sexy or romantic about it - other than the fact that you are in a beautiful wooded area which can have a fair degree of privacy if the other rental apartments aren't full. The people who run the place are welcoming and helpful. They have complied books of helpful contacts and information about local attractions which they have put in a notebook and basket displayed in the apartment. Note: None of the vacation rentals are wheelchair accessible and 2 of the three vacation cabins are accessed via substantial staircases that can stress people with knee/hip problems. Unless you are a hardy hiker and carrying all your luggage in a backpack, you will need a car to get to this property. The 'Love Shack is cozy for 2 people. the other 2 vacation apartments are roomier and look comfortable for a small family or 4 or close friends."

  • Pleasantly surprised and happy :-)

"As a first time VRBO.COM traveler I was so leery about using this site to book a vacation rental. Even after multiple emails between myself and the owner (Janea) I still had my family wait in the car until I walked up the stairs to make sure the property was not fradulant. I can't explain my excitement as I called down to them to let them know it was safe for them to come up. We had a blast!!! We spent our days exploring all nearby parks, and beaches. Our evenings were spent on the BEAUTIFUL decks barbecuing and roasting marshmallows. Janea was amazing and responed to my multiple emails within a couple of hours. She lives next door and when she noticed the outside lighting was out we found her changing the strands of lights as we pulled up one evening. My kids loved this place and found many games inside to occupy their downtime. We will definitely be back as we love visiting the Santa Cruz area every summer. THANKS AGAIN JANEA FOR SHARING YOUR CABIN WITH OUR FAMILY!!!"

  • Family spring break getaway

"We had a wonderful time here, two families with 3 small kids & 1 infant. It was the perfect set up for two families-- so much so that we extended our stay another night. Carolyn was very kind & quick to respond. The house was very clean and well cared for. Great instructions all over that made everything very user friendly & easy-- gorgeous patio-- all around great trip!! Next time we will walk to the boardwalk-- we didn't realize it was an option until we read the info in the well instructed binder provided after the fact!! Regardless-- would highly recommend."

  • great location

"PROS: The location is perfect, the cottage was well-furnished and immaculately clean. The kitchen was well-equipped with plates, cutlery, and cooking tools (although not much in the way of condiments, cooking oil, etc). You can easily walk to several beaches, and there is a charming little cafe/burrito hangout about 2 minutes walk away open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lovely garden, with a low fence. Dog-friendly. CONS: A bit of a strange layout; the bedrooms were generously sized, so is the bathroom, but the kitchen and living room are small. The only dining table is in the kitchen, and the space is just large enough to accommodate 4 chairs, with only a little passing space between the chairs and stove. We wished there were an enclosed space (garage) to store our bikes, which we locked up in the yard."
