  • Our month-long vacation in Grass Valley

"We stayed at Fran's cottage to get a sense of the Grass Valley/Nevada City area and community. Property managers DeAnna and Billy were very accommodating and friendly. Aside from perfect winter weather in the upper 60s/low 70s - The property itself was comfortable/cozy and conveniently located within walking distance to all of downtown Grass Valley and the wonderful Empire Mine trail. Our favorite trails were along the Yuba River (south). Despite being centrally located, the local neighborhood was very quiet at night. The house has a very nice backyard we enjoyed during the days on the back porch. Our favorite walking-distance eating spots were Diegos (dinner) and Charlie's cafe (breakfast). We were probably most impressed with the friendliness of virtually everyone we encountered, whether at the stores, restaurants, or just walking through town or on trails. Everyone says hi and smiles. We'd recommend this property to others who want to enjoy Grass Valley as we have. I'm sure we'll be back. Bob & Bea."

  • Couples Retreat

"My husband & I booked the Lotus Lake House for an intimate, private, secluded weekend retreat. We found the directions very easy to follow and we’re very happy to see the house as pictured from the website. We were looking forward to the glass walls to enjoy the rain & evening sky, the privacy from other people and a place beautiful to want to stay in all weekend. Although it is secluded, it was not as private as we anticipated. We noticed people camping about 150 feet up from the house and you can also see another “house” from the side of the Lake House. We didn’t feel it was an issue with the “house” as we could not see any noticeable windows. As for the campers, we did feel as if we were in a fishbowl since the front of the house is glass walls and a clear view to the campers. We kept wondering if they were watching us (slightly creepy). I am unsure if they are allowed to camp or not, but it did give us an uneasy feeling since we had not read anything about campers in the guest book. We also did not contact the owner since we were there for just the weekend and felt it probably wouldn’t make much of a difference. Although it was creepy, we went on with our rainy weekend. We took advantage of watching some movies the owner had, but we would suggest bringing your own, as it is slightly limited. We realize the owner does not carry an extensive collection due to all the nature, but we were rained in, wanted to cuddle up, enjoy the rain, and watch a movie with some popcorn. We really enjoyed our intimate weekend. We found the Lotus Lake House had everything we needed. A few recommendations: 1. Read the guest book first. Many questions can be answered in it. 2. Bring an IPod adapter for IPhone to use for music (for the owner I would suggest having one at the house). 3. If you are allergic to dogs, the Lake House is probably not for you. It is a dog friendly property- inside & out. Immediately after opening the front door you can smell a strong odor of dog (smelled a mix between wet/ unwashed dogs). (For the owner we would recommend an air fresher to reduce the odor). 4. The bed is firm- we had read this in prior reviews, but felt that firm could mean something different to each person. For us, it was too firm, so be prepared if you enjoy pillow tops mattresses. 5. The frig is on the smaller side, so plan accordingly. We would recommend this house to anyone looking for a couple’s retreat .We would not recommend a group, as the house is l"

  • The very best resort!

"My husband and I have stayed here twice this year and plan to return again in the next year! We have family in Grass Valley and sometimes need a place to stay. We also stayed here when we needed a get-away for our anniversary, but needed to remain close to my grandmother who was ill. This cute little studio-cabin is so cute and quiet. We have stayed here in the spring and the fall and it is just perfect every time! I highly recommend staying at the Last Resort as we feel it is The Best Resort!"

  • Great Birthday Getaway

"Had a wonderful time here again. It was peaceful. Had fun exploring. The dog snuggles up in his travel bed and has a great time. Looking forward to booking another get away here. The house has such a wonderful open feeling. Love it!"
