  • Beautiful

"I read all of the reviews after I booked the cabin and was very pleased. There is nothing like getting away from it all. We had four adults (two seniors) and my husband and I took the porch. The evenings were cool and comfortable. I would wake up in the middle of the night and I was surrounded by stars. I want to move in... Vincent and Maya were there when we arrived. Provided a bowl full of oranges for juice and a tremendous short cut to Kings Canyon. This is a place I will definitely visit again."

  • Could not have been better!

"My friends and I enjoy getting out and exploring California. That said, this was truly one of the best CA experiences I could imagine, and I would highly recommend staying here. This prefab house (an idea I am now sort of obsessed with) was beautifully simple and I love how the design reminds you of the surrounding landscape at all times. The whole 7 acres is amazing- plenty to explore. Our group rented the 2 tent cabins and they were perfect for us, harkening back to the days of week long summer camp, but close enough to the house to grab a beer out of the fridge. The stars were incredible. Deer wandered past the house all throughout dusk. Red sunset light against the surrounding hills can't be beat. The sound of the river is the perfect backdrop soundtrack. There was ample space for food and the kitchen is well equipped. No TV and no internet were a welcomed respite from the pace of city life. There is a projector and screen to watch DVDs if you so desire. One of our party was able to get a sliver of cell service (AT&T) from one of the tent cabins. This house provided just the right amount of thoughtful, modern comfort (not sure if it was a knockoff or not but LOVED sitting in the lounging Eames chair), but then nature was also so accessible. Slick Rock Recreation area is minutes away, and was the perfect Sunday swim spot. We spent most of Saturday up in Sequoia National Park- an hour or so away. If you stay at this house you absolutely should get up there. Hike the stairs to the top of Morro Rock. Walk around the Crescent Meadow in Giant forest. Go see the Sequoias named "The President" and "The Senate" (they are as impressive as General Sherman but much less people). Spring time was a great time to visit: we got to hike with snow on the ground, and we saw bears! Wildflowers and Pacific Dogwood were blooming and rivers were running with snow melt. Temperatures were mild. Truly, just the best. At this point I'm just going to start repeating myself. This place is thoughtful and perfect on this piece of property and we loved our time there. Sheila, the manager was friendly, easy going, and informative about the space. She is also very knowledgeable about Sequoia National Park, so ask her for suggestions. Owners, if you ever are selling, please let me know! Or if you want to grab a cocktail in LA, I'd love to hear more about the process of building this place! Thank you for renting this place out!"

  • a magical place

"I am sure most reviewers have covered most of the details so i will try and keep it concise. This property is in a magical, secluded location - full stop. But there is wifi! - I didn't even know this till i got there. And a phone, but little else (no cable so if you want to watch a show, bring your laptop and stream). You will get zero cell ph here but all carriers are represented in town a few miles away (Verizon is just now installing a tower i heard). The house is comfortable for a short stay and while it's certainly not high end at all, you're also not paying high end as you know if you shopped around. I feel the price paid was well worth what we got in return. I think my singular issue was simply the dining room table, which is two fold up tables covered with a large plastic picnic table cover. It's ok, and not that i really cared, but it spoiled the ambiance of what is otherwise a cool 70s decor. Someone could get picky and say the place is outdated but i rather liked it. Some of the fixtures are waaay cool and i know people who would pay money for some of this stuff. Like i said, other than that, no complaints and if he totally fixed the place up then we'd be paying $325 a night so, i am fine on the decor! And then, of course, there's the entire reason we all choose this place - it is sitting on one of THE sweetest spots on the river (of all the rivers that flow through this area). We're actually looking for a property to buy up here so we spent two entire days driving around the area and pretty well covered it all and this spot is practically unique. PS: Best place to eat in town, hands down, is the Ol' Buckaroo. We ate there every meal and it was amazing food and being from LA I've always had a good choice of eateries so u could say ui am spoiled."

  • Perfect Anniversary

"As parents of 3 kids under 7 years old we rarely have time for ourselves. We wanted to plan a trip for our 10th wedding anniversary that was far enough away from home, but close enough in case of emergencies. This place was perfect! Almost rather not write the review and keep this a secret. We were welcomed, given the tour of the land and treated like family - something so rare. Thank you for the great conversation! They are so welcoming and genuinely excited to share this small area of God's creation rich in local history. Completely surrounded by sights and sounds of nature . . no cars, no people. My wife and I felt like we were completely alone in a land far far away. While my wife isn't much into roughing it in the 'woods', I was in paradise. Spent half a day hiking in the national park seeing the giant trees for the first time. The rest of the time walking the property and especially enjoying the sight and sound of the river that brought back so many childhood memories. Her paradise came after "roughing it" all day with me, coming home to the cottage to a warm bath, relaxing on the deck enjoying the view, napping, then under a blanket keeping warm in the living room taking in a dvd or listening to music without any interruptions. As much as we enjoyed our time alone, we can't wait to be able take our kids for a few days, hopefully making it an annual trip. Thank you James and Kathleen for allowing us to recharge ourselves and our marriage in the Kaweah Cottage. God bless you always! R&D"
