  • Thanksgiving at the Surrey House

"We were lucky enough to spend the Thanksgiving long weekend at the Surrey House in Twain Harte, and we absolutely loved it! It's a beautiful property, in a beautiful area, and was a great place to relax and unwind over the holiday. Most of our time was spent cooking/eating, playing cards and board games, reading by the woodstove, walking around Twain Harte, and, of course, playing ping pong! It seemed like there were lots of recreational opportunities in the area, but we were looking for a more low-key vacation. Even though the house certainly isn't isolated, it was always nice and quiet, and when the sun went down we'd forget that there were neighbors nearby. Since it was Thanksgiving, we were a little worried if the kitchen would be big enough and stocked with enough cookware. We brought some extra cookware just in case, and even though the kitchen is a little narrow, it has tons of counter-space and more than enough cookware for a full Thanksgiving meal! Lastly, Paul was extremely helpful and easy to deal with. He offered a lot of good info about the area and what to expect, and was quick to respond to any questions I had, whether via email or phone. We would definitely come back here again, whether for Thanksgiving or just a random trip in the future."

  • Beautiful and Relaxing

"We used Lone Star Lodge for a weekend training for a group of 17 people. It was beautiful, and everyone commented on how the location was ideal for our retreat. We all had room to spread out with only a few having to sleep on the floor, and the upstairs family room worked well for our training sessions. The table even sat all of us for meals! We held our last session in the backyard under the trees. We were so pleased and Jackie the owner is a very kind-hearted owner who really wanted us to be comfortable. Highly recommended!"

  • Wonderful home and owner.

"Our family of 14 decided to plan a Gold Country getaway for my parents' birthday weekend, one week before checkin. By luck, we found this place. I reached out to the owner Lissa, Who was extremely kind and accommodating in helping us to book this home on such short notice. I went to the post office with the check and contract and paid for overnight delivery, but unfortunately they lost it for a few days and it did not arrive on time. Lissa assured me that she would help me to make this happen and allowed an alternate form of deposit the day of checkin. The house is large and beautiful and really makes the most of its space. We did a lot of cooking and talking around the table, our favorite past time. The home is just down the street from a cute little village that we went jogging to in the mornings. On Saturday we spent the day in Columbia panning for gold, enjoying the old fashion café/candy store (the owner's homemade pear pies from her own personal orchard are a must!) and having affordable custom gifts made at the blacksmith shop. On Sunday we spent the day shopping in downtown Sonora, visited the old schoolhouse and cemetery in Columbia and did downtown Columbia again for the saloon and ice cream shop. Out vacation turned out great and I could not have wish for better treatment. Family members ranging from three months old to 60 years old had a great time! Lissa and her home are truly delightful and we can't wait to return."

  • Location! Coralie

"Location, Location, Location! Really a perfect location which is close to town on a quiet street with plenty of parking. It was a warm, cozy, and inviting cabin that everyone enjoyed especially the grand-kids! My husband and I appreciated the 12 inch. pine paneling, old growth, which gave the place a special charm. The cabin had everything you would need. Enjoy"
