  • The free night makes all the difference!

"We spent four nights at this condo in the Sunstone building of Juniper Springs Resort. The furnishings are nice, and the welcome chocolates were an added touch. For two people this place would be perfect. Anymore than two, and it quickly becomes cramped. There were three of us on this trip. The bathroom is small, without much space to put your toiletries. The balcony was also cramped at breakfast, as there really is only enough space for two people. The swimming pool is nice, as is the hot tub. A "great room" with an outdoor patio is also a nice feature of the building. This condo had a view of the swimming pool, which also provided plenty of noise from the loud families swimming. I don't quite understand why there is no air conditioning in these units. Perhaps because the resort favors the winter crowds. But being able to cool the condo down without having to prop two doors open would have been nice. We've rented many cabins and condos through VRBO and HomeAway. So we are quite familiar with the process. The main reason this particular rental doesn't get higher marks is because of the poor communication from the owners. The response to our questions was often very slow (24 to 48 hours), if at all. After we paid for the condo, we pretty-much didn't hear from the owner again. This was unfortunate, as we did have questions that went unanswered. Even after we checked-out, and I sent an email thanking them for the use of their condo, I never received a reply. I would recommend this resort to others because of its location, and nice amenities. And after this, our first time at Mammoth Lakes, I'm sure we will return to the area. But I'm sorry to say we won't rent from these owners again."

  • Peace and tranquility

"The pictures tell the story quite accurately - this place is well situated with wonderful views, and away from it all. No noise from traffic at all! We would sit out on the deck for evening cocktails and morning coffee transfixed by the beautiful surrounding mountains. Everything was perfect - the place is immaculate with every conceivable item. Kathleen has thought of it all. We really liked the ecological focus for the home which was our first attraction when looking, and then when we saw the place for real, it is really impressive and amazing. The kitchen was fabulous, rooms comfortable and showers perfect (after a long day hiking in Yosemite). The internet was outstanding -quick and without any hitches. Our Verizon phones got 4 bars of service. The electronics are really modern - almost more than we could figure out given all the gadgets. Alex showed up in less than 3 minutes to help us figure it out. There is no cable tv so we missed our favorite show, but that was a minor inconvenience. The grocery store in Mariposa is first class with everything you would want or need, so stop there on the way and stock up. My only wish was it could be a bit closer to the park - we ended up logging lots of miles that week as we explored all corners of Yosemite, and then had the 'extra' miles to/from. Ah but the drive was easy and scenic - my wife snoozed on the way home as I cruised along window open enjoying the breeze... Thank you for such a special place - it made my first visit to Yosemite a trip I will always remember fondly."

  • fun time in mammoth

"We recently took our 2 children up to mammoth for some summer fun. We usually stay at a private home but decided to stay in the village this time. It was AMAZING! The condo is on the quite side of the building, very comfortable beds and wonderful amenities. We will for sure stay here again - summer and winter!"

  • Just as represented plus tips for visitors

"It was wonderful to have so much space, the terrific view off the deck and the amenities, although this is an older home. Tips for travelers: read rental car instructions so you know how to downshift BEFORE driving in the mountains. If coming from San Francisco, we highly recommend the last full service grocery, Raley's in Oakdale, CA which has coolers, a café for lunch and a Valero gas next door. The Village Store in the Valley has most options but at a much higher price, as is the gas at Wawona ($4.989 vs. $3.899 at Valero). There is a large stock of laundry, dish detergent and dishwasher soap on hand as of June 28, 2014 and the toilet paper is SINGLE ply due to septic. Two of the three bears we saw were in the subdivision so heed instructions. Our favorite trip was the hike to Sentinal Dome (two 60+ couch potatoes made it by taking our time), but wading in the South Fork of the Merced at Wawona Swinging Bridge was so much fun that we did it twice. Our daughters highly recommend Mountaineering School instructor Mark for the Anchors class and thought that a private instructor for Crag class would have been worth the extra if you are somewhat experienced. The hike to lower Vernal Falls is definitely moderate, NOT easy, as it is a non-stop 40 degree climb. Once again the couch potatoes made it by taking our time. All in all, a trip of a lifetime and we so enjoyed retreating from the noise and crowds of the Valley to this house each evening."
