  • Great location and a comfortable stay

"We stayed here for a week in July with our two young kids. The house suits a family very well - nice and clean, with bunk beds and a separate bathroom for the youngsters. The upstairs living room is clean and bright with a small balcony and a kitchen which has pretty much everything you need. The house is in the Tahoe Donner development and you can use the guest passes provided by the owner to access many of the facilities in the area for a small daily fee. These include the Trout Creek Recreation Area (5 minutes walk!), the Northwoods Pool, Tennis, Bocce, Archery, and access to the Beach Club Marina on Donner Lake. There are hiking trails nearby although we used the car to access them. Donner Lake is about 5 minutes drive down the hill, and is a good alternative to Lake Tahoe for watersports. As well as the Beach Club Marina where you can rent paddle boards, kayaks and pedal boats, there is Donner Lake Water Sports which is accessed via Donner Memorial State Park, if you want something faster. Downtown Truckee is just a minute or two away. We didn't eat out all that often but we can recommend Bar of America and Jax at the Tracks, an original 1940s diner which is super kid-friendly and full of character. Squaw Valley is only about 20 minutes drive from the house and is well worth a visit and a ride up in the aerial tram. From Squaw Valley you can cycle on a paved track all the way into Tahoe City, and continue on to several watersports centers around the lake. There is so much to do here for families in the summertime, and we are already thinking about a winter vacation - let's hope there is more snow next season! The owner was especially helpful and informative and sorted us out when we accidentally left something behind. All in all, this was a great vacation."

  • Ideal rental for two families!

"We stayed in this property for one month this summer and it was perfect for our family (with 3 year old and 5 year old) + guests. The house is a nice size and the open layout of the main living room and kitchen made for great living space. We enjoyed the space when it was just our family staying, but it was still very comfortable when we had a guest family with two kids (5 adults, 4 kids, could theoretically fit more). The location is ideal - right by the Ritz gondola and the upper Northstar Village - very walkable. We usually stay in the Village for convenience, but this house provided the perfect blend of privacy and convenience. Pat was wonderful in ensuring we were settling in well and she was very responsive when we had a small shower leak. We have had many rentals in the Northstar area over the last fours years and this one will remain one of the top houses on our list. A few things that might be helpful to know before renting: - The upstairs bunk room (upper level) is very warm in the summer. We bought a fan, but it was still unbearable for the little kids (our nanny stayed up there and said it was OK, but the kids stayed in the lower level bunk room). We are from SF, so we don't handle the heat as well as some others! Thankfully, the lower level stays beautifully cool. One bunk room, the family room, and a queen room are located here - plenty of great sleeping space. - As another reviewer mentioned, it is a bright house, specifically there are no drapes in the master and the lower bunk room and, although the view is lovely, the sun is up early in the summer. - The house is great for kids who are 3 years+. We let them wander in/out and they had a blast. There are some toys, games and stuffed animals for kids, so you can pack light in this area. For toddlers childproofing may be a challenge given the number of drawers/cupboards and the staircases are very wide, so be prepared to watch them carefully. Pat and John, thank you for making your lovely home so comfortable for guests! We look forward to renting from you again."

  • Great condo in the Village!

"Thank you for providing the condo for our family getaway! We were treated to a special treat with the recent snow and it was truly beautiful. The condo was well appointed and has great views of Shirley Canyon. The owner was very responsive and seemed to take pride in every detail. We look forward to returning in the near future!"

  • Incredible house and a fantastic location in Truckee

"I've stayed at the Cedar Trail House year after year at this point (both in the summer and the winter) and there's no other place I'd rather stay every time I to go Tahoe. The location in Truckee is perfect - close to everything, but just outside of town so it's quiet. And, it's literally minutes from Squaw, Donner Lake, and the Truckee River. In addition to the location, the house itself is great. Plenty of space/room for groups of people staying there...and one of my favorite featured is the deck with the hot tub. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great time in Tahoe."
