  • Best Thanksgiving Ever

"We stayed at Smuggler's Cove over the Thanksgiving holiday and really enjoyed it. The kitchen was well appointed and we had a wonderful time cooking. The kids loved the pool table and spa and the abundant TVs were a hit for the football games. We are so very thankful!"

  • Good value for the price

"We stayed at the Tahoe Keys cabin and had a great time. Owner was good to work with, responsive and friendly with all our questions. PROS: There were many nice touches in the cabin. The layout is comfortable, with two bedrooms on each floor to spread out, and everyone loved the steam shower. The main deck is great for the whole group to enjoy, and the little canal right out front was delightful, with easy access for watercraft from the pier to the entrance to Lake Tahoe just up the canal. Lots of lovely birds in the quiet neighborhood, and we even saw a river otter in the canal during our stay! The area has many great options: Skiing in Heavenly in the winter, grocery stores in a nearby shopping district, lakeside access within 10 minutes' drive, and the Pacific Coast Trail for hiking nearby (recommend Echo Lakes). CONS: There is just a "peek" at the lake; the cabin doesn’t have much lake view at all. There are many roads branching throughout the Tahoe Keys community, and this house is on one of the inner branches of the Keys. Directly across the narrow canal is a gated community with many large homes close together which block the lake view. The photo of the pier and house is taken looking back from that strip of homes across the canal. The photo of the view of Lake Tahoe is a super-zoom of a small gap between two homes where a small sliver of lake can be seen, so it really is only good for checking conditions before you head out. Even from the third floor, the view is mostly of the houses across the canal. And there is no lake access by walking, as the locked gate leading to that gated community is set back on the street before it crosses the canal. The only way of reaching Lake Tahoe's shore directly is by watercraft, and if you don’t have your own for the canal route, you must drive out of the area to another access point to get to the lake. Also, the pool and spa membership access provided are about 45 minutes’ walk away, so plan to bike or drive there as well. I pointed these things out to the owners, and they have updated the listing to more accurately reflect these aspects now. OVERALL we really enjoyed our stay and recommend the chalet… just beware that the lake view and access is very limited. But at this price the cabin is a very good value and a very pleasant home base for a Tahoe getaway."
