  • Restful Recovery

"I chose Volk house for my three week stay for several reasons; the location, the quiet neighborhood, two bathrooms, and my emails with Linda. My situation was different from most travelers.I had specialized eye surgery at Stein Eye Institute and needed a place for recovery. My husband is not fond of L.A.; congestion, etc., so the Long Beach location was ideal, close to the 405 for doctor's appointments at UCLA, and quiet the rest of the time. While I stayed in the house (usually sleeping), my husband took advantage of running through the beautiful park - it's only a block away, and exploring nearby. Almost everything we needed was in the house, but when we needed things like food, and pharmacy items, it was an easy trip, even for someone not familiar with the area. Two bathrooms is more important than you can imagine under the circumstances we had. I needed a lot of sleep, and an extra bathroom meant I wasn't disturbed, especially for showers after all that running. Yes, Linda is really as nice and helpful as everyone says. She was there to greet us, even identified the blooming plants - the amaryllis were breathtaking - and always answered our calls within minutes. So when you contact her for info, the warm and responsive person is really the same one who is with you throughout your stay."

  • Great Place for a Family

"We rented both 3 bedroom casitas for 5 nights before we went into LA for our daughter's wedding. We had a total of 10 people there. These are in an excellent location- amazing view, short walk to the pool, very nice inside. The units aren't directly connected but you just walk down a private, outdoor hallway to go between them. We hired a chef through kitchensurfing.com to come in 3 different times. We hung out in one unit while he cooked in the other unit. It was a great place to stay. This resort is the type you come to and never leave. There is the pool, cove beach, an nature center where they watch whales (we saw LOTS of whale and dolphins right from our deck), etc. Nelson's restaurant was fantastic. We hope to come back."

  • Amazing getaway so close to LA!

"Recently stayed here for two nights and had the most romantic time. Beautiful and quiet area tucked into the mountains. Feels like a private neighborhood! The cabin is gorgeous and you can tell right away that a ton of heart has been put into it. All the amenities you will need are there and readily available. Wonderful instructions posted throughout the cabin make the stay more than welcoming and easy to navigate. Honestly, I wish I could escape here every week!"

  • Christmas Vacation 2014

"We cannot say enough about this experience from the time we placed the order until we left the property to return home. Our primary contact (Mary Kay) was so helpful and full of information regarding directions and sightseeing opportunities. This really helped us plan out our week before we even stepped on the plane. This was our first family trip to the LA area so our primary focus were the typical tourist spots. The house being built on the side of the mountain provided a beautiful view of the landscape with the city on the distant horizon. The location was perfect - 15 minutes to Universal/Warner Bros, 10 minutes to the strip and museums, an hour to Disney and the ocean. It was originally suggested by the travel agent to use a Disney hotel and we are go grateful we found this place instead. The house was clean, organized, and they provided a 'guide book' that detailed everything we needed to know about the house, along with emergency contacts. There was more than enough room for our family of five to sleep, eat, relax. When we arrived, there was a Christmas tree set up in the living room, lights on the deck, and a couple of goodies as a welcome present on the dining room table. This was a nice surprise for our kids who reluctantly assumed that we would not be celebrating Christmas this year. During the stay, we also received a couple of e-mails from Mary Kay with some 'secret' directions to be able to hike to a couple of interesting points throughout the park. We would highly recommend this home to anyone else who may be planning a trip out that way."
