"This place is beautiful. The boardwalk does *not* extend down from Venice, and so it's like your own private beach, complete with a little seabird nesting preserve. The sailboats slide silently in and out of the marina all day, white sails dashing against a blue ocean and bluer sky. You can see from Point Mugu west of the Santa Monica Mountains in the north down to Rancho Palos Verdes and Catalina beyond…all from your balcony...and dining room table...and bed. With windows open bringing a sea breeze and the sound of waves, on a drowsy Sunday afternoon we had perhaps the best nap possible in this world. We even had a whale jump four times in the ocean right off the balcony (not guaranteed to occur : ), and during one of morning walks on the beach, a baby sea lion come out of the surf (also not guaranteed). And the sunsets…beyond words. You have to ask yourself: why go anywhere else?
The owners are awesome, the property meticulously taken care of, with bikes and private parking, and full kitchen. The owners are literally letting you into their home and are extremely attentive without being intrusive (let us know to call at any time, no matter how small). This is no skimpy setup. Note that the there is not a lot of shade on the balcony during midday (fixed with a beach umbrella), but honestly, sitting at the dinning room table with the sliding door open: the whole first floor becomes your balcony with plenty of shade, view, and breeze. The hip and/or fine eateries of Abbot Kinney, Venice, and beyond (e.g., Culver City) are just 15 min away. Although delivery is suggested: why leave when you can dine on the western edge of the continent, gazing out through floor to ceiling windows?
Some other details: not really for kids or large parties. The main bed sleeps two and there is a comfy futon in the second smaller bedroom that could do two too. As a romantic getaway for a couple or as a blessedly peaceful break for a singleton, it's beyond ideal. For a laid back girls or guys weekend, it would work too as long as you don't mind sharing a bed. Quiet too: LAX is far enough away to the south that the planes sound like a car passing far in the distance, generally unheard under the sigh of wind and wave.
We will be back."
