  • Off the beaten path

"We drove to Arcata to spend New Years with our goddaughters. We traveled with their mom and needed a place that would be comfortable for the three of us. Krista's chalet was perfect. Very comfortable. Well provisioned. Our stay there was delightful. As a bonus it was a wonderful gathering place for us all to eat pizza and play games. Here's a few suggestions for future renters: * Don't arrive at night. If you're not familiar with the area, the property is hard to find. The passage under the freeway thru a culvert, the imposing gate, the narrow winding dirt road, the misleading left turn... it was like something out of a 'B' horror movie, except with a happy ending. * The imposing gate looks like it's locked, but it's not. Just push it open. * We had the downstairs apartment and were a bit unlucky a couple nights since the upstairs guest had a 7-year-old who was learning to jump rope. The upstairs noise was more than a little distracting. Fortunately he went to bed early. * There was not really enough towels or blankets. You might think of bringing some extras. * There's no broadcast TV, but there is a DVD. Consider bringing a couple of your favorite movies. Our issues were all very minor. If our goddaughter doesn't graduate soon, we'd love to rent the chalet again next year. Highly recommended!"

  • Really added to our our stay!

"We were up to beautiful Humboldt County for Thanksgiving with family who have lived in the area for some time. We thought we started looking for a place to stay early, including some of Ann's other listings but they were fast being booked. Ann was immensely helpful and pleasant and we ended up at the Victorian, renting the entire house. What a place! Large, comfortable, well equipped (although I didn't find an apple corer for the pie I was taking to TG, LOL, but the kitchen had about everything else you could ever need!), wifi worked well, beautiful view to watch the fog and clouds move over the bay, and really nice artwork (paintings, photos, glass), many magazines and information to peruse. Easy and central location in Arcata. My relatives who live up there came over and really enjoyed the fact that an old Victorian was being cared for. Ann's a very nice person to work with and an excellent business woman, she made the transaction easy and the product was memorable! We'll see you again, Ann!"

  • Great for group, Great location

"We just got back from 10 days at this lovely home. We had five in our group, including myself (mom) with two college age and two elementary kids. Best part of the home is the very large and open kitchen/great room/dining area. The wall of windows overlooking the redwood grove and the bay view while dining was spectacular. Kitchen was adequate, everything we needed (except perhaps a knife sharpener) to whip up several meals. After going to the farmer's market-an event in itself-we gave the kitchen quite a work out. Also a nice grocery about 3 minutes away. The décor is simple, with many nice pieces of artwork on the walls. Perhaps the third upstairs bedroom could have used a chest of drawers, but the college kids lived out of a suitcase, so no big deal for us. Five slept comfortably without even using the other two bedrooms downstairs. You will be close to everything: redwood parks, beaches, Eureka for dining, minutes to the marsh-perfect location. We loved the place and hope to be back!"

  • Charming Gem

"My daughters (14 and 21) and I recently stayed here and were absolutely charmed. The house is cheerful, sunny and inviting. There's a rural and private feeling, but you're a walk or bike ride away from everything you need. We loved the Farmer's Market on Saturday, followed by a hike in the Community Forest, a soak in the hot tub at Finnish Country Sauna, followed by a great dinner at 3Foods Cafe and ice cream at Arcata Scoop. My only regret is not having time to catch a Humbolt Crabs game. (Arcata's semi-pro baseball team.) We can't wait to come back. Thank you Ann!"
