  • Weekend in the Woods

"We had a great time at the Rustic Retreat for Spring Break. Unfortunately it rained the whole time we were there but we still tried to enjoy the outdoors. The Redwood forest is only 10 min down the road and was nice to hike through. The river is just down the hill from the cabin and my son enjoyed throwing rocks in the water and exploring. Be prepared for absolutely no cell service. The Wifi and cabin phone were down while we were there so that made it difficult. We were prepared to be secluded but I was hoping for some connection just for safety's sake. The cabin is just right for 2-3 people. It has everything you need for a quiet little getaway. Towels and robes are provided for the hot tub. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. And the heaters worked well in both rooms. The whole property is beautiful and welcoming. Felt like our own little resort. If you choose to drive in be prepared and comfortable with gravel terrain. I would definitely suggest having a truck. We did it twice (once to unload and once to reload). Other than that we just parked and walked across the bridge. Directions are as clear as they can be but you have to be ready for an adventure. All in all we had a great time and would definitely return!"

  • Loved the location, loved the Yurt

"My girlfriend and I spent a week in the Yurt. We loved every minute and hated leaving. The area is excellent if you like hiking or mountain biking. Jedidiah Smith Redwood Forest is a short drive away and we spent a couple of days exploring. The Oregon Caves are about 30 minutes up hwy 99 and it is definitely worth a visit too. The yurt had everything we could have wanted. Sitting in the hot tub at night, by the river, looking at the stars just can't be beat. We drove in the road the first day and dropped off our stuff and then parked by the bridge for the rest of the week and I think that is probably the best way. If I was traveling lighter, perhaps for a weekend, I would have just parked by the bridge and carried my stuff over. The property is beautiful and peaceful. I had high hopes for this week away and our stay here exceeded my expectations. I think we would have been happy staying at any of the cabins on the ranch but I think the Yurt is the best choice."

  • Peaceful and Picture Perfect

"Our stay at Middlefork Ranch was peaceful and picture perfect in every way. It is just as advertised, and more. Families like ours, which included an active 5-year-old, will love this place with private outdoor space galore! We didn't need to bring half the things we packed. The roomy kitchen and 2 bathrooms were stocked for every need. Mike and Kris obviously work hard to maintain their property and make their guests comfortable. Everywhere we looked, the ranch was carefully maintained and equipped for guests to enjoy the scenery, the river and surrounding acres of property. There are several rentals scattered about the ranch. We stayed at the roomy Raven's Nest, but there is also a Yurt and at least one other unit, possibly more. We felt as if we had the entire ranch to ourself. Crescent City is about 30 minutes away and we enjoyed the exceptional dinner menu and service at Porcini Restaurant overlooking the beach. Just a few miles west of the property, along Hwy 199, is Stout Grove where several scenes in Star Wars were filmed. The beauty of this slightly off the beaten path grove of redwoods is not to be missed. The internet connection is slow...don't expect to download big files, it won't happen...and cell service was spotty for us. That seems to be how it is in the area generally. You may need to leave your business behind and simply soak up the peace you can find here. Many thanks to our hosts for sharing their beautiful and unique property with us in such a welcoming way."

  • Great Place to Unwind

"What a wonderful, quiet place to relax and unwind! We arrived during an impending storm but that didn't spoil our trip in the least, rather it was so refreshing to experience rain! and to see greenery! and see water flowing in the river! (suffering severe drought in SoCal) The house is comfortable and cozy, has a landline, WiFi and cable TV. The house is supplies with everything we needed for our stay. The road and the surrounding roads were perfect for walking our dogs. There is a deep freezer if you were to catch a boat load of fish and a cleaning sink on the deck. The deck is large and gated so our dogs could go out and bark at the wildlife. The setting is beautiful and we will rent this place again. Thank you, Jerry!"
