  • A perfect choice for a Mendocino vacation

"My family and I highly recommend Blue Heron. We were a party of five adults, with a sixth joining us for two nights of our one-week stay, and Blue Heron offered everything we needed to have a wonderful time together. The house is even larger and more beautiful than the pictures indicate. For instance, there is a large dining room table in the living area at which we could work on a big puzzle at one end and sit together for meals at the other. There was also seating at the island in the kitchen area for more casual chatting over our morning coffee. The kitchen is beautifully appointed and organized, so many of us could comfortably cook together (hint: Safeway in Fort Bragg is close and excellent for groceries). Another huge plus was the ample leisure seating—there were sofas in cozy areas, a huge sofa in front of the picture windows, and a sofa near the fire. Everyone always had a place to sprawl and read or talk together. My daughter and her husband enjoyed their private bath and bedroom; my husband and I loved the master suite with its own big windows and balcony access, a walk-in closet, and a bathroom that included a Jacuzzi and gas fireplace! My bachelor son claimed the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. And my six-foot plus brother claimed that he was perfectly comfortable on one of the two (full) futons in the game room for the two nights when he came to stay with us. Another plus was the hot tub, wonderful for relaxing in the evening while watching the sunset. Of course, Blue Heron is convenient to everything. We loved Russian Gulch, which is right next door. In fact, on the last morning, my husband went there for a fast goodbye to its magnificent landscape and ocean views and saw not one but two whales breech! A grand conclusion to a grand vacation. Thank you, Saundra and Eric. And thank you for your very prompt responses to our few questions, before, during, and after our stay."

  • Week at Sea Ranch

"My partner and I, both architects from Chicago, studied The Sea Ranch community in architecture school. The Sea Ranch has always been a place that we have wanted to visit but never had the chance until recently. The photos on the VRBO website for this house do not do it justice. We had a fantastic stay here at this home. The ability to enjoy a week of silence among the redwoods was better than we could have imagined. City living did not prepare us for the experience of enjoying morning coffee and meditation in the silence on the roof deck among the redwoods and of seeing the stars at night from the roof deck. It was truly inspiring. The only noise we really heard were the occasional car from a neighbor driving by and the breeze through the trees. In fact, there are so many trees around the home that you could not see neighboring homes while enjoying the spa or sitting on the roof deck or from most any window in the house. We cooked most of our own meals. The kitchen had plenty of counter space, every type of utensil, cookware, dishes and flatware that we needed. Sitting in front of the fire in the fireplace at night was a treat with plenty of firewood available. The wood paneled walls and ceiling and the wood floors reminded me of the summer cottages in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY. You can see the pride and care the owners take in the home. We felt very welcome and comfortable and enjoyed the experience! We hope to be back again in the future!!"

  • Casa Canon Retreat

"We had an wonderful time at Casa Canon! The drive there alone is breathtaking and then to arrive to your own little hideaway in the middle of a forest with ocean views is amazing. There is a condo attatched but the owners were there and you never see or hear them from the townhouse. It's very private. The decor is modern and very tasteful. Loved evey touch. Beds are the best I've slept on with bamboo sheets and the master has skylights to look up at the stars. Heaven! The hot tub was a daily routine and the views from it and every room in the house are fantastic! The walk to the beach is beautiful and you must take the trail alongside the pond. Loved everything at this property and hope to be back!!"
