  • Wishing we could stay forever!

"Cannot possibly do this home justice in a few words! Clean, comfortable, quiet, roomy, reasonable. If I could buy this house, and move here closer to my grand kids (oh yeah, kids too), I certainly would! Have visited Crescent City many times, this trip was awesome, in part because of this rental, and working with Mary. Would not hesitate to do business with Mary again! Did I mention: clean AND reasonable? Two of my favorite adjectives. Wow! Great experience.!"

  • Gorgeous Setting!

"The Buckner estate is truly magical and property manager, Palma, is a real gem-- SO generous and accommodating. It was the perfect spot for our daughter's wedding, and our family enjoyed a relaxing weekend stay there in a spectacular setting. The pool, the Guest House and its view, and the lawn area near the main house are all lovely for entertaining, and the well equipped kitchens really met our needs. However, the number of guests it can accommodate is a bit misleading, which is why I can't give the listing 5 stars. There is a serious problem with privacy, especially in the Guest House. Though it says the Guest House can sleep 2 couples, and has 1.5 bathrooms, there is a shared bath with NO door between the master bedroom and the bathroom, the one with the shower. There were also no curtains on the bedroom glass doors. And anyone who sleeps on one of the extra futons has to enter a bedroom in order to use the bathroom. We were a bit shocked to find this out when we got there. The owner's response when I brought this to his attention afterwards is that they will just have to insist on giving tours for large groups (so they know what they are getting) NOT, that they should correct the bizarre bathroom situation. He told me that "when asked, he always tells people that 20 overnight guests can only work if it's mostly kids", and that they really "discourage any more than 6 couples (12 adults) because of the general lack of privacy". So, if you need to use the Guest House for your group, and are not able to take a tour prior to booking, you should be aware of this peculiar arrangement. Other than the privacy issue, we loved this place. If this flaw can be taken care of, we wholeheartedly recommend the property and would be very excited to stay there again."

  • Shangri-La on the Pacific

"Last week a group of us (3 couples and a dog) spent 4 lovely days at Sea Ridge. It was a Shangri-La for us - an "...earthly paradise, a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world". Easy to find. Away from but close enough to the bustle of Mendo Village and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Pacific Coastline. Wonderful restaurants nearby - Albion Inn and Ledford House. JoAnn and Russ are the penultimate remote host and hostess having anticipated our every need with well stocked kitchen, pantry/laundry room and bathrooms - there are even little slipper socks to keep your feet warm at night. The house is so well laid out with three tiered bedrooms such that each couple has a deck and a view of the ocean. The beds are so comfortable that only the view and shopping/wine tasting fantasies can draw you out of them. And the deck - fantastic place to commune, cook and contemplate. And did I mention the hot tub situated on its own deck below the master deck surrounded by the remains of a redwood for privacy? Fireplace in the family room and wood stoves in every bedroom. Totally pet friendly. Supermarket in Mendo is fine but recommend stopping at a supermarket before you hit the Anderson Valley. Such a wonderful few days. Thanks JoAnn and Russ! We are all looking forward to our next stay at Sea Ridge!"
