  • Great Way to Unwind After Disneyland

"My wife, 5 year old son, 2 year old daughter, and I met up with my in-laws in LA earlier this year for our children's first Disneyland vacation. We spent the first night at the Disneyland Resort Hotel and spent an entire day at the park. After an exhausting day and fairly short drive (by LA standards) we found ourselves at Russ's fantastic beach retreat in Newport Beach, and immediately started unpacking and getting the kids to bed. The next four days we spent recovering from Disneyland, with no shortage of great options for kids and adults alike. The beach is a short walk away and in March was very clean and not crowded at all. Restaurants were an easy bike ride away, made easier by the fact that the house came stocked with enough bikes for all four adults to get around, and the guys at the bike shop at Newport Pier had a trailer for the two kids. We biked to the Balboa Island Ferry, both piers, restaurants, shops, arcades... really was a fantastic location to get all along the strip while avoiding all the noise and congestion closer to the piers. The house fit our family perfectly. Grandma and grandpa got the upstairs master bedroom, while my wife and I took one of the 1st floor bedrooms down the hall from the room we put the kids in (two twins worked well). We barricaded the exterior / garage doors to keep the little ones from wandering away, and the rest went flawlessly. Plenty of space for us, kitchen had all the supplies / utensils you could every need, and the patio was a great place to sit and have a beer during nap time. Fantastic value considering how close you are to the beach and how much room you have. The finishing touch was when Russ saved the day by sending us our son's lost mickey mouse hat... which is consistent with the great service we got from the time we made the reservation to the time the mickey mouse hat arrived back home! Thanks Russ -- we will definintely recommend for anyone else heading out to Newport Beach, particularly any families recovering from a Disneyland adventure."

  • not your average vrbo

"After many years of searching for the perfect summer home……we have found this treasure where we stayed for three months last summer. Not only is the location fantastic: 8 minutes’ walk to Victoria Street beach, 3 minute drive to the Montage walk (the most beautiful walk in the world) and 5 minutes to Main Beach (most fun place on the Coast). Not to mention the Penthouse itself: everything is in pristine condition and of high quality. The place has a magical atmosphere and you can’t not be happy and feel celebratory to be there. The views….every night a sensational sunset! Oh, and the fabulous showers!!! The owners are superb human beings and have gone above and beyond in helping us with some unusual issues. Any little problem you might find is immediately taken care of in the most pleasant manner. Please don’t book too long…..give us a chance to come back!"

If theme parks are high on your list of things to do, then Orange County vacation rentals are excellent destination choices for an ever-growing list of fabulous fun times at a variety of theme parks. Of course, no one comes to Orange County without heading to Anaheim area to visit the Magic Kingdom, Disneyland, the iconic original home to the world-famous mouse and friends. Long before Captain Jack Sparrow, local residents and visitors knew the dangers that lurked for unsuspecting riders on the Pirates of the Caribbean!

Buena Park is home to America’s first theme park and the one that Californians call home, Knott’s Berry Farm. The park has a fascinating history, dating back to the 1920s as a farm and the country’s first "Chicken Dinner" restaurant which is still serving its famous dishes today.

Visitors here will find America’s biggest shopping center at South Coast Plaza, with attracts over 24 million visitors each year. Only slightly smaller is Brea Mall. You could also take advantage of the weather at Fashion island, an outdoor shopping experience with over 200 stores, featuring a Venetian carousel. If you find you are missing Mickey, head to Downtown Disney District where you will find more than just the House of Mouse; you will also find great nightlife. To mix entertainment and shopping, a great day out is the Block at Orange, with shops and plenty of entertainment, including themed restaurants and a skate park. Then, there is the Village at Orange; it is huge too! If you still need more shopping, the Irvine Spectrum Center has that and more. Here you will find a giant Ferris wheel, a carousel and one of the largest movie theaters in the country.

The Great Outdoors, Southern California Style

Naturally, with such great weather, the beaches here are the envy of the world. Whatever your passion, Southern California has a perfect beach for you. From serious surfing opportunities to fabulous family fun in safe surroundings, there is an ideal spot waiting just for you.

For an equally thrilling, less challenging day, pick one of the main scenic drives throughout the county. It would be a shame to leave without having taken in the scenery along Pacific Coast Highway, California’s Route 1. For a desert day, take Route 74 for unforgettable views of snow-covered mountains and the dry desert.
