"I can't say enough great things about the property. Secluded at the end of a cul-de-sac, we felt totally isolated which is what we were looking for. A short drive from Julian made it the perfect getaway. There was enough room for 2 adults and 3 children to move around and not feel like we were cramped. The large upstairs living room was a perfect play area for the kids as it was rainy most of the weekend, and the fantastic fireplace was a perfect setting for roasting marshmallows and hotdogs. The downstairs was perfect for the adults to "escape" for a few minutes of peace and quiet. I would suggest arriving before dark so you can easily navigate your way to the electric and finding the heat. READ THE BOOK before you settle in as it gives detailed instructions on everything. We got in late we neglected to read it until the next morning, so we didn't know where to turn on the heat... we were warm enough with the plug in heaters, but once we discovered the heat, it was very comfy in the cabin.
AND talk about supplies. I brought things I did not need. There are dishes and utensils galore. I've rented places that said it was stocked and there were only 4 settings of everything and 2 pans. There is enough in the cabin that I didn't need to bring anything but food.
As I said, it rained and with rain comes ants. We didn't discover them until the very last day and in the book it clearly indicated where the ant spray was and what to do. IT is the country folks... and that is a piece of nature. We did find that they LOVE to crawl all over the car though. But a thorough spray of the hose and they were history. Not a big deal to us...
One more note is the manager, Gina... she is fabulous. We never did meet but she was very accommodating. We can't praise this cabin enough and would buy it if it were for sale.
Another note is a trip to the Smith Railroad and Mine. The kids loved riding the railcards and going into the mine in a coal car. The obstacle coarse was a big hit too. SO glad we were able to fit that in and that the rain stopped for us to go."

"Ended up at Corgie Castle last minute with my two young children and mother for a few days during Spring break. My only criteria was that the home be driving distance from LA with an enclosed yard -- Corgie Castle fit the bill!
This is a very spacious, large home which sits on a hilltop with incredible vista views. There are chickens, a professional garden, flowers, and plenty of room to roam and play outside. In the evening, we enjoyed walking along the private road it's located on and spotted wild turkeys!
The fun and neat thing about the house is all the different rooms you will discover while there. Every time you open a new door, another nook and cranny is unveiled. It's very clean. The master suite is fit for a Queen and is a fun throwback from another era...
Our favorite room was the kitchen. Condusive to gathering family, cooking, and celebrating. The details in the furnishings, especially in the kitchen and living room, are European with a mix of quaint and tired. My critique would to include a fresh coat of paint, new carpeting, and improving water pressure. Still, even without these creature comforts, the rental is a bargain!
It's the simple pleasures really. Hot coffee in the morning in the backyard. Waking to the birds chirping. Bob the gardener offering a sample of fresh picked erosemary.
Julian is a cute, historic town. My toddler went gold mining and rode the little train. We enjoyed farm fresh eggs every morning and Apple pie. We enjoyed this quirky spot and the children have already asked when we can come back to our "Spring House"."
