  • Comfy, cozy, well situated - with one drawback

"We spent a lovely 4 days/3 nights at Lone Fir Cottage. Eleanore, the owner, was very responsive and helpful. The cottage is cozy and quiet, surrounded by oaks, with partial ridge views. Wonderfully located, practically inside Pt Reyes National Seashore and a short drive to Point Reyes Station. The spacious hot tub (a highlight) was relaxing and therapeutic after long daily hikes. Remodeled bath is nicely appointed. Plenty of linens. Beds not new but comfortable. Books, puzzles, DVD player kept us entertained in the evenings, plus wi-fi, which we appreciated. Did not use the fireplace, as it was warm so we did not need it. The one negative: the kitchen is really not adequate and the mini refrigerator is too small, even for just two adults. We tried using our coolers but food spoiled anyway. There's a gas grill on the deck, but we did not use it due to our short stay and concerns about storing raw ingredients and leftovers. This might not be a big deal to others, but for us it really detracted from an otherwise enjoyable stay."

  • Charming place to relax

"Came back from a 3 night stay at this house, 2 families with kids. The location is amazing - at the end of a little town, where you feel like there are no neighbors, and most of your view is the huge yard and forests. The house is well equipped. Beds were good. Rooms were spacious. Not a new or modern house, but clean and for the most part everything works. Kitchen is small, but living area is fine. By far our favorite feature was the fire-pit, which is set up next to the ponds with koi fish and waterfall. Sitting on wooden chairs by the fire-pit, with the sound of the waterfall, is just a heavenly relaxing experience. Endless supply of firewood was a plus too. Sarah, the innkeeper was very responsive and helpful. Some minor issues you might want to be aware of (while we still overall give it 5 stars!): - The layout of the house is, how should I put it gently - unusual... a downside is that one of the downstairs rooms is connected to upstairs, only by going through one of the other rooms (unless you walk out and back in through another door). - Related to the above, the master bedroom doesn't have as much privacy, since a stairway from downstairs goes through it, and can't be closed without isolating another room. - Some of the doors are tricky to close. For example between the master bedroom and the kitchen, the door just keeps popping open. - I don't think there was any air conditioning. We didn't need it, but if you go there during a hot spell, be aware. There are plenty of windows and the area is windy, so I suspect it might be fine anyways. - Stairs are a bit steep for small kids. If you have kids that are not yet very comfortable with stairs, you may need to us a gate (I think there might even be one on the property stashed somewhere) - Beware that while the house is big, the base price is for 4 people and you will be charged extra for each additional one. So it might end up a lot more expensive than you thought when it first showed up in your search! It's worth it though :-) A hiking trail from the street to the beach is really nice. We didn't go all the way with our small kids, but the part we did was beautiful. We would certainly consider coming back again!"

  • Spectacular location, view, privacy and extraordinary serenity!

"This was our family's second stay at this delightful home and I'm sure we will return again. The website pictures can only capture a small sense of how wonderful this location is. It is breathtaking, and the custom designed home capitalizes on the views while maintaining one's privacy. Our extended family included grandparents, adult children and grandchildren, and the site was fabulous for all. The home is perfectly located upslope from the wetlands, just where the hawks and turkey vultures catch the updrafts and soar 20 feet or less from the deck or directly overhead--the grandsons (and adults) were thrilled by this. We had an awesome afternoon on the large deck, barbecuing oysters from Hog Island Oyster Farm, eating cheese from the Cowgirl Creamery and sourdough from Bovine Bakery (replicating what we did during our first stay- this is a fabulous tradition to establish!). The home easily accommodates families, beds are comfortable (loft futon mattress was a bit hard, according to one adult son), and it was very clean. As with any home, and particularly for rentals, some features are aging, but the pros vastly outweigh any little age-related wear. My high expectations for this kind of rental were pleasantly met and I recommend it. Do not hesitate to rent it, you'll be blown away with the beauty of the location, the design of the home, and the absolute peace and tranquility it provides (even with very young grandchildren!)."

  • Warm and Inviting Pt. Reyes Cottage

"We loved this home! Met my sisters in Pt. Reyes Station for a long weekend of hiking, dining, and exploring. The home was warm and charming. It is beautifully designed and so very comfortable. The owners were wonderful to work with and made our rental welcoming and easy. The home is steps from wonderful shops, restaurants and Cowgirl Creamery. We loved our time in the little town...but it's also close to many fabulous coastal hikes and views in the Pt. Reyes National Seashore. We loved our time here...we loved the house...and we hope to come back some day!"
