"Beautiful property in a great location. Really spacious! We vacationed with our 5 kids, ages 4 to 19, and we hosted extended family dinners and movie nights with my sister, her husband, brother in law and 3 kids. We loved the high ceilings, charming architectural details (original woodwork! Nonfunctional but pretty fireplaces! Stained glass skylight at the top of the stairs!). Also the art on the walls was very interesting, many with a San Fran theme; loved the panoramic photo capturing the city on fire in the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake. Nice kitchen, not huge but the most cooking we did was oatmeal and fruit. Dining table sat 10. We discovered the Bi Rite grocery a mile away, Safeway and Whole Foods about a half mile away. Corner liquor store just across the street was surprisingly well stocked with essentials like soy milk, Cheerios, whole wheat bread, microwave meals (even organic vegan options!). Jumpin Java coffee house a couple doors down was my morning stop in for passable coffee, and they did have vegan breakfast sandwich options. We rented a minivan but mostly took public transportation everywhere. The crazy little garage was one of the few drawbacks to this rental...We were warned that it's small, and it wouldn't fit a "large SUV." I sent an email inquiry to be sure a regular minivan would fit, but I never got a reply...so let me tell you, it was lucky we received a Kia Sedona from Hertz, and not a Dodge Grand Caravan. The Kia barely fit, with folding one of the side mirrors down. Not only is it narrow, but then there's a 90 degree right turn a short distance in, and then a steep decline... And then you have the neighbor car to the right. If we had rented 153, there's no way our car would have fit. Backing out is definitely a 2 person job. Another negative was an off odor, dog I think. My husband's allergies were triggered a bit. Another minus was that many of the lightbulbs were out, and no replacements were to be found. Overall, a charming and spacious Victorian flat in a pretty neighborhood. As to value, better than needing 2 hotel suites, and much better opportunities for family bonding. We loved it!"

  • What a GREAT PLACE

"Stayed here as parents and three young adult kids. Mick the owner was a pleasure to work with, and even got us a visitor's parking permit which made things really easy. The location is amazing -walk to Golden Gate Park, walk to everything in Haight Ashbury, and the view of a bit of the Pacific really helped. The apartment is really comfortable -not big - but very comfortable. The upstairs shower in a hallway took some getting used to (ask Mick!) but it made a great talking point!. There's a gorgeous fireplace to sit around and read in the evenings. We had a car so didn't use public transport much - but the kids did, and said it was a breeze. Supermarket very close by, and downtown SF is a 12 minute ride away (at least when we were there for Christmas week) . I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat. Oh, and we had a week of clear blue skies and 60 degree weather in December included. Make sure you ask for that deal."

  • Great City Flat

"The cozy, city flat was just right for our family. We have several children, including a 1 year old. I was really grateful for the high chair and the rest of the kids really enjoyed the train set while the baby napped. It was surprisingly close to much of the city. We spent time at The Embarcadero, The Golden Gate Bridge, the Conference Center, the Beach, the Golden Gate Park. The street parking was doable (pay attention to the signs!!)...it was only a hassle on Sunday as it was the popular Bay to Breakers event run that day."

  • Served as Superb Bridal Suite

"I got married in Golden Gate Park and my bridesmaids and I stayed here the night before the wedding. I live in a different neighborhood in SF, but wanted to find a place close to the park and was lucky we got to use this gorgeous apartment to gather and prepare-in for the ceremony! Joan was really great; she was exceptional at correspondence and so kind at letting people come and visit while we prepared for the big event. It is close to so many great San Francisco locations, including the park, Haight St., Whole Foods, Cha Cha Cha, and public transport. The apartment itself is a beautiful place with plenty of space, a couple great gathering spots, including the backyard as well as the fireplace inside, and the four of us loved preparing in the large dining room. The kitchen is also large and has many amenities. My favorite thing though, was the art and how it complemented the historic, architectural details. I'm sure the preparation photos are amazing -- can't wait to get them from the photographer! My only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer...but hey, I had to go get married! ;)"
