"Beautiful property in a great location. Really spacious! We vacationed with our 5 kids, ages 4 to 19, and we hosted extended family dinners and movie nights with my sister, her husband, brother in law and 3 kids. We loved the high ceilings, charming architectural details (original woodwork! Nonfunctional but pretty fireplaces! Stained glass skylight at the top of the stairs!). Also the art on the walls was very interesting, many with a San Fran theme; loved the panoramic photo capturing the city on fire in the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake. Nice kitchen, not huge but the most cooking we did was oatmeal and fruit. Dining table sat 10. We discovered the Bi Rite grocery a mile away, Safeway and Whole Foods about a half mile away. Corner liquor store just across the street was surprisingly well stocked with essentials like soy milk, Cheerios, whole wheat bread, microwave meals (even organic vegan options!). Jumpin Java coffee house a couple doors down was my morning stop in for passable coffee, and they did have vegan breakfast sandwich options. We rented a minivan but mostly took public transportation everywhere. The crazy little garage was one of the few drawbacks to this rental...We were warned that it's small, and it wouldn't fit a "large SUV." I sent an email inquiry to be sure a regular minivan would fit, but I never got a reply...so let me tell you, it was lucky we received a Kia Sedona from Hertz, and not a Dodge Grand Caravan. The Kia barely fit, with folding one of the side mirrors down. Not only is it narrow, but then there's a 90 degree right turn a short distance in, and then a steep decline... And then you have the neighbor car to the right. If we had rented 153, there's no way our car would have fit. Backing out is definitely a 2 person job. Another negative was an off odor, dog I think. My husband's allergies were triggered a bit. Another minus was that many of the lightbulbs were out, and no replacements were to be found. Overall, a charming and spacious Victorian flat in a pretty neighborhood. As to value, better than needing 2 hotel suites, and much better opportunities for family bonding. We loved it!"

  • Cozy, convenient apartment

"This apartment is a great location if you want to be in the city, but a little outside all the hustle and bustle of it all. It's located in a quiet neighborhood that's convenient to Land's End, Sutro Baths, Legion of Honor, and Cliff House. It's also convenient if you want to jump on the highway and drive south of SF or across the Golden Gate Bridge and go north. We never had a problem finding parking in the neighborhood, and a couple of times, Charmaine was sweet enough to save us a space right by the apartment. The apartment itself is cozy and homey, with a beautiful garden. The patio is a perfect place to relax and sip a glass of wine after a day of walking around the city. The kitchen is small, but adequate. We didn't cook a lot, as there are many restaurants within walking distance of the apartment on Balboa. The neighborhood felt very safe at night, with few, if any, homeless people in the neighborhood (unusual for SF!). Charmaine and her husband were gracious, laid-back hosts. It was a wonderful home base for our excursions in and around the city. We would highly recommend this apartment!"

  • Great place to stay for families

"We had a great stay here. The apartment is very spacious with two full size rooms and full kitchen, lounge and dining. It has a real character feel and the location is very convenient a short walk to chestnut St shops and restaurants. We found is a great base to see San Fran we both drove and caught the bus from stop nearby."

  • What a view!!

"This nicely-appointed and quiet apartment had everything I needed...even came with an exercise area, namely 28th Street coming up from Church after getting off the J! (For a final aerobic push take the shortcut up the really steep stairs off of the one-block Castro Street to Duncan). I whined a bit at first about the steep walks, but after a couple of days, it was fine, and besides, the neighborhood is very safe even at night. In spite of the steep walks the location is fabulous mainly because of the view and the beautiful and walkable Noe Valley neighborhood. This is one of the only places we have rented in San Francisco with a King-size bed, which was very comfortable (and I'm very particular about beds!). The kitchen was decently outfitted and everything was in good working order (would have liked a stove-top espresso pot :-)!). I also loved the top-down blinds in the living room so that you can look out at the amazing view of San Francisco without the neighbors below being able to see in. I did not have one issue while staying and would stay here again."
