  • The best: stunning views, gorgeous home, everything you could ask for

"I highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a vacation or a longer term stay in San Francisco. We've rented many places, some of them quite outstanding, but this one is the best. It's the perfect combination of everything: a lovely, heritage San Francisco building that has been completely rebuilt to current earthquake standards, with an impeccably appointed interior, top-quality appliances, and an expansive roof deck with a view of the bay, Alcatraz and Coit Tower that was better than the view from some popular tourist sites. It is close to cafes, interesting places to wander, and shopping. It's spotlessly clean, the beds are comfortable and the kitchen has all you need to serve gourmet meals. The owner, Ray, is a genuinely wonderful host who made us feel like family. He welcomed us with fresh flowers and an assortment of snacks and during the tour of his home, it became clear that he had thought lovingly about every detail that he put into it, including the pretty spectacular sound system. The home, which is a single family dwelling with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, is like a five star hotel, with lovely art on the walls and an airy, artsy feel. But it's much better than a hotel because it really does feel like a home - very comfortable and welcoming. There are bookcases next to the gas fireplace abundantly filled with a pretty amazing selection of books. We are bookworms and picked this place partly for its proximity to City Lights bookstore, but we could have spent the entire week just reading the books in those cases. The roof deck has a number of outdoor sofas and chairs and it's a great place for snoozing with a book or for a lively family board game. Part of it is always shaded, and part seems to always be in the sun. Two of the bedrooms are on the floor below the deck, with a large, very modern and elegant bathroom. The rooms are well soundproofed. The main level has the kitchen, family room (gorgeous) and a toilet. The lower level has a guest suite perfect for parents or teens, with its own full bathroom. It also has a separate laundry room with washer and dryer. Again, tastefully elegant but in an unfussy way. This location is near transit and we found it easy to see the city with a bus pass. It's a wonderful neighbourhood for cafes and every morning we picked up espresso and fresh baking on Columbus. This home has wonderful space for family time but offers plenty of options for privacy, too. Truly wonderful!"

  • Beautiful condo close to everything

"The Fairmont Ghiradelli is a beautiful property located close to Fisherman's Wharf. It is actually in Ghiradelli square - the common terrace complete with fire pit is right under the sign and overlooks the water. My husband and I stayed here with our two daughters and they loved being able to walk right downstairs to the chocolate shop. The units are very nicely decorated and finish out is definitely high end. Service is great - the employees are very happy to help you with any request. Valet parking is included which is quite a deal as parking in SF is expensive. They also have a house car to take you to nearby destinations and if you call the will come pick you up too. The car is often not available right around peak times (such as dinner), but we were still able to use it quite a bit which saved us using Uber as much or searching for parking in the city. We ate the breakfast at the hotel a couple mornings. It's just OK, but it is complimentary which is nice. Specific units are not guaranteed, but they will take requests. We luckily got on the bay side and the view is fantastic. Even if you don't get a bay view unit, you can still enjoy the view from the beautiful terrace. Carlene, the owner we rented through was great to work with. She was very quick to respond to all emails and requests even though she was out of the country at the time of our booking. She took care of everything for us and our stay was perfect. Thanks for a great trip!"

  • home away from Home

"My husband and I come to San Francisco regularly as we have a daughter and grandchildren here. It is important for us to stay in Noe Valley which is where they live. We are very pleased to have found this very comfortable apartment. We come twice a year for a period of a month or longer. The apartment meets all our needs and expectations. It is spacious, very clean, comfortable and has a fully equipped large kitchen with a garden patio. Large washing machine and dryer are available. We very much appreciate the children's toy's, books, high chair and stroller that are supplied by the owners. The beds are very comfortable with good linen. The apartment is situated close to 24th Street with all the shops and there are many restaurants within walking distance. Bus stops are also near by. We certainly hope to return later in the year. We highly recommend this apartment."

  • Great location

"As stated in other reviews, this place is all about the location. North Beach is an outstanding neighborhood with many good local restaurants and clubs. We ate at several of the nearby restaurants, had coffee and pastries each morning at the coffee houses, tried some gelato, etc, etc. We walked to literally all of the the attractions - the wharf, pier, boat dock to Alcatraz, Chinatown, Lombard St, cable cars, etc. Coit tower is steps (steep steps of course) away. Shopping for groceries was also convenient with Safeway and Trader Joe's a relatively short distance. We did choose to rent a car for several day trips out of the city and paid for the onsite garage space which was very convenient. But if you're just touring the sites in the city, don't bother with the car, you won't need it. There are several local rental car agencies if you decide to rent one at the last minute. I should mention we are a family of four with two teenagers. The space of the apartment was great for us. The owner was responsive to any question and there were no problems with the check-in process. This is an old building as you would expect in the heart of San Francisco. Use Google street view to look at the building and around the neighborhood. The pictures on the VRBO website are very accurate. The kitchen and bathrooms were recently updated and clean which was very important to us. I did not give five stars for the following, easily correctable I should add, reasons: First, the living room rug and chair were filthy. As in disgusting to the point that we threw a blanket over the chair before we would sit on it. Second, the window in the bedroom that is near back porch did not have a lock. There was a burglar stop, but the window still opened about 8 - 10 inches which is enough to unsettle a teenage girl. Quite frankly, for the nightly rate we paid I would not have expected to have to point those things out. Again, we would have given the fifth star if not for the issues above."
