"I thought it was a great cozy little place. Nice and quiet with all the comforts of home. The market was perfect distance for a nice walk and the surrounding area was gorgeous. I would love to come again!"

  • Back to Nature

"This is my second stay and Nena and Max's cabin in the woods. The cabin is situated on their property but away from their home, screened by trees and foliage, with a good sense of privacy. The cabin is as described and shown in the pics - very clean and it has the necessities. I brought my food and my go-to knife, pans and coffee maker, but there are pots and pans and utensils, along with dish towels, paper towels and napkins. The nearest store has food and supplies, but I recommend bringing the things you know you'll need/want. Hiking and nature are all around, bring forest service maps or specific hike maps, but the cabin also has maps of the area. Max was gracious in making recommendations for a forest road mountain bike loop ride, and has recommended hikes in the past (including Wooley Creek, where I met the mama bear and her cubs :)) Nena and Max are super nice folks, and I felt comfortable and safe in their cabin on my solo jaunt. Meeting me at the drive was Jennessy (sp), the mule, who is free on the property and is a lot like an oversized dog. Special moment for me this trip - watching the first salmon coming up the Klamath and Salmon rivers, riding forest trails in the first rain of the season, amazing 12 hours of sleep, cosy woodstove fire. Heaven."

  • Perfect Family Vacation

"After spending a week at the McCloud Vacation Home this summer, I find myself trying to figure out when my family & I can return. This classic mill house has been thoughtfully remodeled with many beautiful and insightful touches. Our party of seven was joined at the last minute by two additional overnight guests. The home easily accommodated everyone. John, the owner, went beyond my expectations answering questions about his home, the area and a multitude of activities giving me specific lists of hiking trails and leading me to Charlie, the owner of McCloud Outdoors. We loved our hikes along the McCloud River Trail, at Castle Crags and Castle Lake. Our favorite day was spent canoeing/kayaking on Lake McCloud where we paddled to the original Hearst Castle. As we neared the castle the water turned a crystal-clear, Caribbean blue just before the castle appeared dramatically around the next bend. We were greeted along the way by a bald eagle, several osprey and many sizeable trout. The evening was topped off with delicious ribs grilled at the house and finally by three perfect shooting stars viewed from the picnic table in the backyard."

  • Gorgeous inside and out!

"This just as advertised. Seems quite new with good quality throughout. Everything was clean and worked perfectly. The setting in the woods is remote yet so close the Lassen and groceries and gas. The big balcony all around is a perfect way to start and end your day."
