Recent Mount Lassen reviews

  • Just spent a week here, and it was well beyond our expectations!

"Reviews are important to me when searching for a rental, so here's my input for future renters of Battle Creek Retreat. Upstairs has a full bath, two bedrooms with queen beds, and a large master suite with a king bed and patio. You can hear the creek from the master bedroom, and the bed was super comfortable. We were very excited to see plenty of closet space and drawers available, so we quickly unpacked for the week. When done, we still had room to stash our empty suitcases! Downstairs has two living rooms/lounging areas, full bath, kitchen, laundry area, and a sunroom/playroom. The main living room has two cozy reclining sofas, and there were plenty of throw blankets to use. The fireplace was set up for us with paper and kindling - it took one match and a couple minutes to create a raging fire! The dining area has a large table and a Keurig coffee cart with many options. Beyond the dining area is a sliding glass door leading to the sunroom/playroom with a table for 4 and a sofa. There were books, crayons, puzzles, cards, dominoes, dice, and board games. The board games were kind of dated, but it was fine since we always bring our few favorite games with us. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, and sharp knives. It had all the items a home chef would need; just bring your own food, spices, and condiments. Outside there is a fire pit (a real one! - not one of those cheap ones from Home Depot) with a large picnic table and patio furniture around it along with a gazebo with a bistro set. There is a detached bunkhouse with bunk beds. I'd imagine most kids would enjoy having their own place away from their parents while on vacation. A very short walk down behind the house is a relaxing patio with chairs over the creek. There is a path by the creek that leads out to the street, and a quick walk from there (I'd guess a little over half a mile) is a lake with a picnic area. Very cool! Oh, and there was a bottle of local wine waiting for us...very nice! If you can convince yourself to leave the house, there are so many places go. Our main reason to visit was, of course, Lassen. The drive through the park was beautiful, and Bumpass Hell was awesome! Burney Falls was great, and pictures do not do it justice. Also worth visiting: Subway Cave, Shasta Dam, and Turtle Bay/Sundial Bridge in Redding. I would highly recommend this place, and we hope to return when ready for a 6-hour drive again."

  • Beautiful and relaxing...

"Our stay could not have been better! Where to start? From the moment we pulled in the driveway, my daughters, ages 12 and 15, were completely enchanted with this lovely home. They were especially enamored with the backyard creek, the upstairs bedroom and sitting area, and the downstairs spa tub. And my husband and I were delighted to see that the kitchen was very well-stocked. Cheese grater and garlic press? Potato peeler and wine opener? Pot holders and dishtowels? It was all there, and more! Our stay was scheduled over the Thanksgiving weekend, and that was the weekend that California received the rain we've all been praying for, so we spent a lot of time indoors. No worries, though -- the home had many DVDs and board games to entertain us. We also popped into nearby Redding to watch a movie, and the next day, my younger daughter and I had a fabulous adventure in the rain when we took our dog for a walk in the nearby woods. We had no fear about getting soaked through as our home came equipped with washer, dryer, and laundry detergent! Our "bonus" experience came when we visited Lassen National Park, and it started snowing on us! A word to the wise: Bring snow chains JUST IN CASE!"

  • Exceptional Home on 22 acres in the Forest

"This is an exceptional vacation rental for families, and for couples sharing expenses. There are 22 acres of meadows and forest to wander, and decks where you can sit and enjoy the quiet beauty and bounty that surrounds you. The house is extremely well-equipped and well-managed, with (more than!) everything needed for a great vacation. There's something rewarding for everyone in a group to do: visit Lassen National Park with its thermal features and vistas, fish or boat in a wide choice of lakes and streams, hike forests with hundreds of miles of trails, and more. If you're looking for peace and quiet, adventure, sightseeing, or water sports, this can't be beat."

  • Nice spot and a nice house

"As other's have noted, this is a nice house very convenient to Lassen Volcanic National Park. We stayed there four days and went to the park easily each day. It's a good house for kids since it's all on one floor, has games to play and is pretty well child proofed already.d There is cable TV and wifi to entertain you in the evenings. There is also a firepit outside and a working wood stove inside. We didn't use the deck, but there is a nice one in front with an eating area and a hammock. The front yard has a small grassy area and plenty of parking. Across the street is a small pond and a big field for playing ball games on. The road is very quiet and while there are houses next door on each side, we didn't see or hear anyone when we there. There is a small grocery store about 10 miles away in Shingletown that has a surprising selection. If you are coming from the bay area, there is a big Safeway in Anderson close to where you get off I5. The kitchen is pretty well stocked for the kinds of meals you are likely cooking on vacation. Having laundry is convenient too. The master bedroom is on the other side of the house from the other two, which is good if you want the privacy, but maybe an issue if you have small kids and want to be right next to their rooms. We liked it!"
