  • A beautiful house, but Lakehead is HOT!

"We had an enjoyable time at Lake Shasta. The house was exactly as described in the posting. Positives * The owners are accommodating and reasonable. We locked ourselves out of the house one day (totally our fault). We called them and the owners' father came over and let us back in without any hassle at all. * The kitchen is well equipped. The appliances and kitchenware were top notch. We made really good use of the kitchen -- an ice cream maker, two waffle irons, frosty beer mugs, etc... * The house is clean, new, and well maintained. You can tell that the owners try hard to keep things nice. My only real complaint was about the swaying bunkbeds. We ended up tightening the screws and it was perfectly fine. Negatives * My biggest complaint isn't about the house. It is about Lakehead itself (I feel bad about knocking it down a star, but I'm grading the whole experience). The week we went, the weather was unbearably hot! It was 109 just about every day (I guess that is fairly normal for this area). The Lake is also super dry as a result of the severe draughts in California. As such, there was no swimming hole to speak of. We still went boating and had a good time. The porch was fantastic, but we were only able to enjoy it in the mornings. We mostly had to stick with indoor activities which meant that we had to drive down to Redding (about 35 minutes) practically every day. * Only having 2.5 baths for a 5 bedroom house wasn't great, but we made it work. Again, exactly as advertised."

  • Labor Day Weekend

"This private rental is the perfect getaway for your family and friends to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Almanor. My stay here was exceptional because I was just footsteps away from Lake Almanor and the redwoods. My family and I were able to enjoy phenomenal views of the Lake and experience nature at its best. Each morning we were able to enjoy the fresh air and birds singing as they fed their offspring. We rented a couple of jet skis and had easy on and off access to the lake from the property. This location is perfect for fishing, swimming, hiking, and all of your outdoor adventures. When we walked into the house, we were all surprised about how spacious and clean everything was. We were not disappointed because we were able to relax and sleep very comfortably. Our Labor Day Weekend was fun and exciting because this property gave us the opportunity to experience the natural resources of Lake Almanor. I highly recommend this property for your next vacation with family and friends!"

  • Perfect getaway place, close to everything!

"Greg & Carolyn are great hosts and the loft was perfect for two. It's clean, well supplied and nicely furnished. The woodstove keeps it all warm and comfortable! Being close to town made it fun to do some Christmas shopping, take a drive up Mt. Shasta, visit Weed and Dunsmuir all in a day. Highly recommended!"

  • Great Family Vacation Spot

"This is a great cabin for a family vacation - very relaxing and low key. It is conveniently located across from the Rec center which hosts a bunch of different activities for kids and families: movie night, swim, pickle ball, and tennis lessons. Unfortunately, this year the water levels were not great for swimming. The property managers are wonderful and VERY helpful and responsive. Clean and comfy, but bare bones amenities so be prepared for a low tech experience:no dishwasher, only one bathroom on the ground floor (not easy for little ones during the night), WiFi intermittent, no telephone (cell service sketchy), and TV not positioned in a place for easy group viewing of movies. Although possible to do day trips/hikes to Lassen National Park, it is a good 1 hour away from the entrance of the park -- so its a long day of driving."
