  • Excellent Home for a Family Reunion

"We had an amazing week in Healdsburg. We had three generations from around the world and the house was perfect for everyone in the group. The pool was huge and a major attraction for the kids. The main house was open and a perfect place for everyone to gather at night. All the bedding, towels, kitchen equipment was very well done. We all would be very happy to come back next year for another reunion."

  • The Enchanted Cottage

"Allow me to preface this review by stating that I was drawn to this rental for three reasons: 1. It was priced within my budget allowance 2. It's dog friendly and 3. I was looking for a cottage with character which captured the essence of a fishermen village. The problem with number three is character often is accompanied with a sense of sloth. Not so in this case. As another reviewer stated, the pictures don't do this cottage justice. It's very clean, well equipped with first rate linens and towels and it is furnished with hand crafted wood furniture which manages to appear retro but cutting edge at the same time. The husband hand crafted the furniture himself and even installed a beautiful wood kitchen counter which plays off the knotty pine walls and ceiling beautifully. I found myself wandering around the cottage noticing each exquisite detail which rose up to form a work of art. The wife, who seems to be a natural as far as interior design is concerned, chose each piece of art, each piece of pottery and other designer knick knacks with a discerning eye. The owners managed to refurbish, furnish and decorate this vintage 1926 cottage in such a way as to not clash with its history, but to underscore its charm and simple and unpretentious beauty. Moreover, there is a beautiful view of the sand dunes, the distant shore and the coastal hills from the dinning room and from other parts of the cottage. I have vacationed in many a home on the Sonoma Coast. Many of them were very expensive and in sprawling ocean front houses bordered by a golf course. But they were lacking in character--they didn't have that feeling of TLC that this cottage does. Moreover, there was a sense that the owners didn't love their homes as evident with the beds, the bedding, the bad art which made them look and feel like a model home. Speaking of beds, the number bed which can accommodate your preference for a firm to soft mattress is to die for. I didn't want to go home after sleeping like a baby in that bed (I usually suffer from insomnia). Oh, and don't be put off by the cottage being "dog friendly" if you do not have a dog. There were no signs of any dogs every inhabiting the cottage--no dog hair could be found anywhere and no dank dog smell permeated the atmosphere. I could go on and on about how much I loved this cottage but I am running out of characters. Suffice to say, this seemingly simple cottage is heaven on earth and I will return."

  • Lovely Home

"We stayed with friends at Lavender Hill Cottage and had a wonderful vacation. The house is furnished very nicely with plenty of towels, quality bed linens and cookware. The beds were very comfortable and we very much appreciated the fact that there are two king beds and one queen. The kitchen has more than enough cookware, dishes, utensils, cookbooks, serving dishes, etc. This is one of the more affordable rental homes we could find, and the owners are very thoughtful, nice people. The house is in a residential neighborhood and you want to keep in mind that there are neighbors to consider when sitting out on the patio. If you want an opprtunity to party loudly, this is not the place or the setting. The location was very ideal for our travels. You are just 5 minutes away from the downtown square of Sonoma and only a few minutes north on Hwy 12, you have your choice of many fine wineries and tasting rooms. We attended two food and wine pairing events, at St. Francis and VJB Wineries. I have to say, we enjoyed them very much and loved their wines. Another recommendation is a tasting room in the Sonoma town square called Walt. Healdsburg is not far away and is definitely a great place to walk around, sample wines, have dinner and shop. We also have to recommend the coffee roasters that are just down the hill from Lavender Hill Cottage….excellent coffee!"
