  • Great location, plenty of room

"I organized a trip for 9 people to SF and rented this unit and the unit above. The location was perfect - Castro area - close to Muni, restaurants, bars, etc. The units were both very spacious and the bedrooms are on either end allowing more privacy. Decor was classic SF style but could use some updating. My only concern with the experience was the response from the owner/property manager. A few days prior arrival to SF, I called and emailed the owner. Voicemail was full and no response from email. If we had had a problem getting in the unit, i wonder what we would have done. After departure I emailed then called the owner to let her know we were gone and ask about the deposit return. Voicemail still full and no response on email. I finally called VRBO to submit a request/complaint and the deposit was refunded within a few days. I understand owners (I've had a property listed on VRBO) have lots of inquiries from non-renters and renters, and may not have alot of time to respond. But I spent a fair amount of $ on these properties and no response close to arrival or after departure can tend make me a bit anxious."

  • Perfect location

"This was an excellent choice for our group! The house is great for large groups ours was 12! The two group rooms (bunk beds and queen) are great for the teens/kids and the 2 master bedrooms for the adults. The bathrooms made it doable for this large group. The kitchen is well equipped and very functional and modern. We appreciated the most is its proximity to the tennis garden and dealing with the owner. She is very prompt to answer our inquiries and accomodating. Hope to stay here again!"

  • Don't hesitate - you'll love this condo and the location!

"This condo was simply wonderful! My husband and I stayed here and absolutely loved it. Apparently the owners just did a complete remodel and updated everything including linens, towels and dishes as everything seemed brand new to us. The condo was spotless and very modern with all new stainless appliances in the kitchen. The owners were very helpful with our questions and incredibly nice. They clearly want you to be happy with the place and enjoy your stay. You could tell from all the little touches, they care about taking care of their guests. The location can't be beat - we were walking distance to everything in Long Beach and we loved being on the ground floor as it was easy to get around and easy to get to the pool/hot tub area and the work out room. Parking is a breeze. In fact, if you had two small cars, I bet you could fit two in the space this unit has - it is more like a large space and a half. We definitely went out and about a lot, but it was so nice to come "home" and relax in this condo. Super nice concierge guy and very quiet building. Oh, and loved the art deco design features of the building - very cool. Will definitely stay here again!"

  • Best Little House In PS

"We cannot thank John enough for welcoming us in to his lovely home. This rental is an ideal gem in an ideal neighborhood. John has spared no expense in decorating and furnishing his home. From luxurious SPA towels to great artwork and even a pair of cheaters. We had such a nice time, that we are already planning our return visit later this winter. Why would anyone ever stay in a hotel room? Thanks John, your professionalism and attention to detail is remarkable. MB and GP"

California Travel Tips

Our country’s largest state by population, and third largest by area, is home to a wonderful diversity in cultures, climate and landscapes. Here are the top sites to see and things to do in California by region:

The Bay Area

The Bay Area is best known as a free-spirited locale that is home to the biggest tech giants in Silicon Valley, including Facebook, Twitter, Google and Microsoft. It’s anchored by two major cities - San Jose to the south and hilly San Francisco, a major tourist destination on the north end. Here are the top things to do while you’re in the Bay Area:

- Visit the sites in San Francisco. You can’t miss the iconic Golden Gate Bridge - bike across it, walk or take an open-air tour bus to experience the massive bridge in all its glory. Visitors can also take a ferry and tour spooky Alcatraz Island. Other attractions include shopping on Fisherman’s Wharf, checking out the sea lions on Pier 39 and immersing yourself in science at The Exploratorium and California Academy of Sciences. If you’re traveling here in the summer, bring a jacket! SF can be blazing hot and then overcast and chilly within the same day as the famed fog rolls in.

- Head north across the Golden Gate to see the giant redwoods in Muir Woods and check out some excellent wineries in the charming Sonoma and Napa valleys.

- Visit the amazing Monterey Bay Aquarium and nearby beaches San Carlos Beach Park and Pebble Beach.

- Be one with nature at Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevadas or climb the famous Half Dome and El Capitan mountains.

- Go skiing or participate in other adventure sports in Lake Tahoe, just north of Yosemite.

Southern California

SoCal, as it’s sometimes called, is one of the sunniest and most celeb-studded places in the country. There’s plenty to do and see in and around Los Angeles and San Diego, the two major cities in the area. Here are the top spots:

- If you’re traveling with kids around L.A., head to Disneyland in Anaheim - the only Disney Park built under the direction of The Man Behind the Magic himself. Or, check out Knotts Berry Farm, a perennial childhood favorite that first opened in 1940. There are roller coasters, kids’ rides, games and plenty of fun for everyone. Don’t miss dining at Mrs. Knott’s California Marketplace for the renowned fried chicken, biscuits and boysenberry pie.

- L.A. is also the epicenter of the entertainment industry. Check out the Hollywood Walk of Fame, take a tour of Universal Studios and hike in the area surrounding the Hollywood Sign.

- Catch a Lakers game or popular concert at the Staples Center

- Take a hike in the Joshua Tree National Park in the beautiful Mojave Desert.

- Southern California is also home to some excellent festivals: Coachella Music Fest in Coachella Valley, the annual L.A. County Fair and the Newport Beach Film Festival, not to mention the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. If you want to see some major celebrities, hang out in one of the cafes or restaurants on Rodeo Drive.

- If you’re traveling with kids in San Diego, Seaworld or the esteemed San Diego Zoo are excellent options, and Legoland in nearby Carlsbad will provide hours of fun.

- The valleys in central California are less-populated than the coastal areas, but one must-see is the Hearst Castle. It’s an ornate, palatial, 165-room home built for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst and set among 127 acres of gardens in San Simeon, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
