  • Perfect Little Cabin

"My husband and adult son and I stayed here for 3 nights in February. What an exceptional place! Take (what must have been) an old, tiny and undoubtedly ramshackle Tahoe cabin and turn it into a delightful 2 BR/1 Ba little gem. I don't think they increased the footprint, but the finishes, architectural detail and designer touches more than make up for the small square footage. A large open living/dining/kitchen area with a lovely large fireplace, high ceilings and comfortable furniture. Master bedroom with a king is very comfortable with a large closet. 2nd bedroom is great for kids or 1/2 adults. Our son is 6'3" so found the bed a trifle small but still adequate. The bathroom with steam shower and double shower heads was great. Hot tub on front deck was perfect after a day of hiking and snow shoeing. Owner was very helpful, responsive. We had trouble with the TV but they came right down to help us out. Will definitely stay again."

  • Awesome Location with incredible views

"Our stay was great! Especially loved the off street covered parking, fire pit on the patio and the incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. The only down side of the property is the small bathroom with no counter space to put makeup and stuff when getting ready. Loved that there was lots of closet space so we could hang up all of our clothes. Overall, this is a great place to stay, close to the city but on the ocean. If we come to the San Francisco area again I would definately consider renting this property again!"

  • Perfect

"We were very happy with the house and would stay there again in a heartbeat! Our party was 5 adults. Having 3 bedrooms (one queen and two kings)and 3 endnote bathrooms was perfect for our needs. The third bedroom is accessed by way of the second bedroom. As there is a sliding door opening onto the terrace and then through another door into the house which we used to avoid the privacy issues. The house is well appointed although we only cooked one meal it was nice to know that the kitchen was more than adequate. The house is clean and quiet. It's a little dated but that doesn't deter from the comfort that the house provides. There is parking for 2 cars which was ample. The walk to Carmel town centre takes about 25 minutes. The homeowners are very pleasant. We had a very minor issue (couldn't find the coffee maker) which was addressed and sorted within hours."

  • Far exceeded our expectations!

"From the pictures, we knew the house and grounds were beautiful prior to our arrival, but throughout our stay, we continued to find features and amenities in the home that were both thoughtful and stunning (these are things the pictures can't adequately express). For our ladies getaway weekend, the owners graciously accommodated every request we had. Upon arriving, we were instantly impressed - there is a distinct 'wow' factor! The moms in our group were lamenting their toddlers weren't along for the weekend to play in the fantastic kids playground. The water features of the house are the highlight! Multiple controllable waterfalls, a running creek - backlit into the trees beyond the large fire pit, the hot tub overlooking the pool - it was magical! We ate most of our meals outside, since the outdoor kitchen was as fully stocked and easy to work in as the indoor kitchen! Every last detail has been thought of in this home, and left for your enjoyment. Did I mention how nice the owners are? They have taken great care to design and lay out a home that will more than meet the needs of your group. The interior of the home is chic, comfortable, and intuitive, with plenty of space. The outdoor setting is absolutely beautiful, with views of the surrounding wine country and a large wrap around porch. We were truly fortunate to be able to spend our time together in this incredible home! Thanks so much, Leslie and Michael!"

California Travel Tips

Our country’s largest state by population, and third largest by area, is home to a wonderful diversity in cultures, climate and landscapes. Here are the top sites to see and things to do in California by region:

The Bay Area

The Bay Area is best known as a free-spirited locale that is home to the biggest tech giants in Silicon Valley, including Facebook, Twitter, Google and Microsoft. It’s anchored by two major cities - San Jose to the south and hilly San Francisco, a major tourist destination on the north end. Here are the top things to do while you’re in the Bay Area:

- Visit the sites in San Francisco. You can’t miss the iconic Golden Gate Bridge - bike across it, walk or take an open-air tour bus to experience the massive bridge in all its glory. Visitors can also take a ferry and tour spooky Alcatraz Island. Other attractions include shopping on Fisherman’s Wharf, checking out the sea lions on Pier 39 and immersing yourself in science at The Exploratorium and California Academy of Sciences. If you’re traveling here in the summer, bring a jacket! SF can be blazing hot and then overcast and chilly within the same day as the famed fog rolls in.

- Head north across the Golden Gate to see the giant redwoods in Muir Woods and check out some excellent wineries in the charming Sonoma and Napa valleys.

- Visit the amazing Monterey Bay Aquarium and nearby beaches San Carlos Beach Park and Pebble Beach.

- Be one with nature at Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevadas or climb the famous Half Dome and El Capitan mountains.

- Go skiing or participate in other adventure sports in Lake Tahoe, just north of Yosemite.

Southern California

SoCal, as it’s sometimes called, is one of the sunniest and most celeb-studded places in the country. There’s plenty to do and see in and around Los Angeles and San Diego, the two major cities in the area. Here are the top spots:

- If you’re traveling with kids around L.A., head to Disneyland in Anaheim - the only Disney Park built under the direction of The Man Behind the Magic himself. Or, check out Knotts Berry Farm, a perennial childhood favorite that first opened in 1940. There are roller coasters, kids’ rides, games and plenty of fun for everyone. Don’t miss dining at Mrs. Knott’s California Marketplace for the renowned fried chicken, biscuits and boysenberry pie.

- L.A. is also the epicenter of the entertainment industry. Check out the Hollywood Walk of Fame, take a tour of Universal Studios and hike in the area surrounding the Hollywood Sign.

- Catch a Lakers game or popular concert at the Staples Center

- Take a hike in the Joshua Tree National Park in the beautiful Mojave Desert.

- Southern California is also home to some excellent festivals: Coachella Music Fest in Coachella Valley, the annual L.A. County Fair and the Newport Beach Film Festival, not to mention the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. If you want to see some major celebrities, hang out in one of the cafes or restaurants on Rodeo Drive.

- If you’re traveling with kids in San Diego, Seaworld or the esteemed San Diego Zoo are excellent options, and Legoland in nearby Carlsbad will provide hours of fun.

- The valleys in central California are less-populated than the coastal areas, but one must-see is the Hearst Castle. It’s an ornate, palatial, 165-room home built for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst and set among 127 acres of gardens in San Simeon, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
