  • Spectacular House and Setting, but Beware of Altitude

"There's not much that I can add to the reviews of the house itself. Everything others have said is true: The house is spectacular, the owner does a great job of making you feel at home, and the setting is amazing. That said, I think there's something that's only been addressed tangentially in the other reviews, and that's the effect of altitude on people who may not be in tip-top shape. Our group was made up of 6 mostly sedentary people around 60 years of age who flew in from coastal areas like Portland, Oregon, and Birmingham, Alabama. We went from the airport directly to the rental house (altitude 8600 feet) and began drinking wine and catching up with each other after not having seen each other for a few years. The next morning, half of us had blinding headaches, rapid heartbeats, and a just generally crappy feeling. It only got worse as the day progressed. Finally someone thought to Google our symptoms, and it turned out we were suffering from altitude sickness. Worse, since we were totally unaware that this could be an issue and how to protect ourselves, we'd done pretty much everything wrong since arriving at Denver International Airport. It also turns out that altitude sickness can become acute at altitudes above 8000 feet. We piled into the car and headed down into Boulder, 3000 feet lower in altitude, and immediately began to feel better. One of our party nearly collapsed trying to walk to the car. Another party member had sleep apnea, and his CPAP machine failed to auto-adjust for the significant altitude shift, leading to other problems. So, if you are older and/or have respiratory issues, give serious thought to spending a few days in Denver before ascending to this house. Regardless, you should be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness and the palliative measures: Drink at least twice as much water as you normally do, take anti-inflammatories like aspirin or ibuprofen, and, if you still feel like there's a giant kneeling on your chest, head down to Boulder or Golden. There's plenty to see and do, and you'll start feeling better very quickly. Do seek out web sites that discuss the physiology of altitude sickness, and do what you can to prepare yourself for the visit. We lost 3 days to the change from sea level to 8600 feet; we were in the house for 8 days, and the last 5 were really great. The first 3 were borderline miserable with people talking about trips to the ER. I’ve suggested to Beryle that he include some info on altitude sickness"

  • Amazing views, location, and ammenities. Must be respectful of other tenants.

"The home was amazing and we thank the hosts for their hospitality. The home has amazing views of the mountains and is close to local hiking trails that we explored daily. The rental is above other tenants that are extremely cool and friendly. The tenants say they can hear footsteps despite shoes being removed and anyone renting needs to be respectful and aware that the space is loud. The bed outside was covered with a tarp and had bugs and weather stains - not usable. Overall, great stay. Ideal for couples or chill vacations."

  • Great Location and Everything you need

"My grandson who plays football for CU wanted a Thanksgiving family dinner. So we rented this condo and it was perfect. His mom and her boyfriend and step dad flew in from NY and I flew in from California. Very well supplied and the water and wine in the fridge was a delightful surprise. The condo is great for families with kids, lots of toys and baby equipment. The upstairs and down stairs rooms were very roomy and 2 full bath rooms which was my requirement. Loved the WIFI and the office ( even though we did not use it) and the brand new couch which was very comfy watching the Thanksgiving Football games. Owners were quick to respond to email. Diane thank you for sharing your home it was perfect. Will definitely stay here again."

  • Quintessential Boulder!

"This was the perfect setting for eight close friends/sorority sisters who traveled from all across the country for a special reunion weekend. Susan was the consummate hostess: she was easily accessible before and during our stay, flexible and incredibly pleasant. This cozy, well-decorated property -- with great views of the Flatirons and a very convenient location -- truly feels like a home away from home. Highly recommended!"

City Life Is Dull Compared to Life in Boulder Vacation Rentals

Tired of looking at the cement jungle that surrounds you every day? It is depleting and depressing. It's grey and dull and you miss the vibrancy that fresh air and natural surroundings can provide. Boulder, Colorado is one of the most beautiful and picturesque places in the country so it's also probably not a coincidence that it is home to some of the healthiest people in the country as well. Consider booking your next trip using Boulder vacation rentals.
