  • Charming, cheery, and convenient (and fascinating people to rent from)

"We--a family of three--spent the month of July 2014 at Susurro and hope we'll be able to come back again someday. The owners have done a wonderful job of fitting everything you need into the tight space. And we loved the bright colors and artistic creativity and craftsmanship. You have to appreciate a bohemian and funky style to like this place, but we certainly did. (Hint: see how many mailboxes you and your kids can find, and be sure to add your hopes to the wishing fence.) Our 9-year-old spent hours on the wide wood sills (window seats for a small person) in the green bedroom, looking out at the ground level plantings and feeling like she was in a fairy garden. (Note, there is a drop-off between the hall and living room, so not a good place for kids under 4.) I loved getting to take my morning tea outside and look up at Mt. Sanitas (over the fence) and think about the history that the ancient apple and maple trees outside have witnessed. The tiny desk built in next to the fridge was just big enough for me to keep up with work. It's a five-minute walk to North Boulder Park, ten minutes to Ideal Market and coffee shops along Broadway, ten minutes West to the Mt. Sanitas trailhead, twenty minutes one direction to the North Boulder Rec Center, twenty the other way down to the Boulder Mall. So if you're reasonably fit you could enjoy a weekend or week in Boulder without a car. Almost anywhere in town is within 15-20 minutes by car. The only drawbacks for us were that there's not much light over the table and that we did not find the queen bed in the blue room completely comfortable (although Bruce obligingly provided chocks to raise the head when we realized part of the problem was a sloping floor). We took the gel mat off the blue bed and liked the plain futon mattress better--you'll have to see for yourself. The double bed in the green room was great. The windows are large (covering the whole West wall of the living room/kitchen), but because the apartment is partly underground it was cool even before Bruce turned on the swamp cooler. We had one fascinating conversation with Bruce about the construction of this house and his work as a rolfer. He and his wife are clearly people of integrity and imagination, which helps give this place a really positive feel. We visit family in town each summer. In the past we've stayed at hotels, but Susurro was WAY more fun and comfortable for less than a motel much farther from the center of things."

  • Fabulous Fall, Extraordinary Elk

"We spent an absolutely wonderful fall week in the Sandtrap condo. Owners were wonderful. This was our return visit to this rental and were so excited to return. It was the rut season for the elk and we had a front row seat to it all out our Windows. So wonderful and interesting. Weather was wonderful. Condo is much more than you would expect. Can't wait to return. Town of Estes Park has recovered beautifully from the floods of 2013 and. the work on the highways is near completeion and repair, we had virtually no delays. Again. Terrific home ,town and nature. Cant recommend this home enough."
