  • One of the Best Vacations Ever!

"Our children accompanied us on celebrating our 50th Anniversary. In fact it was their gift to us---a Colorado vacation. This home was roomy enough for the ten of us. Had we not stayed in Eldora, 10 minutes from Nederland, we probably would not have discovered this area, featuring beautiful hiking trails, friendly residents, and colorful history. Brainard Lake in close by Roosevelt National Forest provided easy walking trails, fishing, and a chance to see Moose and other wildlife up close. The 4th of July Road, west of Eldora, opened up some of the most beautiful trails imaginable for those in good physical condition. While my husand and I and the young grandchildren visited the Carousel of Happiness in Nederland, our adult children and oldest grandson, hiked to the top of the Continental Divide early one morning. On their short drive to the trail head, they saw a cow and calf (Moose) grazing in the meadow. Once on the mountain, they saw Elk, and a plentitude of wild mountain flowers and breathtaking views of valleys below. Our family felt like we blended into the culture rather than being mere tourists as this home is tucked away in the remnants of an old mining town, only a few hours from Rocky Mountain National Park, Boulder, and Idaho Springs. Eldora has no commercial venues, so there is little traffic, just cars (which you really can't see or hear) down below travelling to the trail heads. Eldora is very quaint, complete with residential log cabins and residences tucked amongst the trees, near the stream, and along the hillsides. We saw few people, a cute little fox sunning on a rock nearby, humming birds, noisy magpies and adorable chipmunks and squirrels. While we did not encounter any bears, we took precautions as they have been seen on occasion, according to others. Internet connection was great but cell phone reception not so good. Once in Nederland, however, good phone service was available. The only improvement needed, would be two regular showers, as the tub and hand-held shower head weren't used much. When we visited, there was air in the water line which caused an occasional surprise of being sprayed by cold water when least expecting it. No other suggestions needed. Thank you for opening up this adorable and comfortable home. Our family had a great vacation stay and would certainly recommend it to others."

  • Our vacation stay in Estes Park 8/2/14 to 8/9/14

"Upon arrival we were totally blown away with the house and it's magnificent location. After reading the notebook on the counter top I began inspecting the property for any issues that the property manager should be made aware of. When I was done and called the property manager one of the numbers was disconnected and the other one I had to leave a message. My call was never replied to so I tried again the following day and came up empty again so I called the other number belonging to Steve. Steve answered and responded promptly and courteously. They took care of all of the issues except for the hot tub and the guest book. They were working on reinforcing the deck underneath the hot tub while we were there. By the time they were done and filled it with water it never got hot enough to use. The hot tub is one of the amenities that we enjoy the most. Especially after a day of hiking in RMNP. The guest book was nowhere to be found in the house and we never did see it during our stay. All of the rooms were very well furnished and comfortable although I prefer a firmer mattress. The Game room left a lot to be desired. There were no decent ping pong paddles, only one clamp for the net so that was unusable, and only one ping pong ball that was usable. Nice pool table but no chalk for the cues makes for constant miscues. If you plan on cooking your own meals you might want to bring your favorite pots and pans from home as there isn't a big selection and if you're like me it's just easier to use cookware you are familiar with. The deck is huge with hummingbirds buzzing around by the dozens. You will want to take your sandals out on the deck as several of us got splinters because the deck is in need of refinishing. The deck furniture is great too but is also in need of refinishing as it will not last much longer unless it is taken care of. It would be a shame to see that furniture weather away. The only other thing that would be nice about the deck is if it had some shade like a retractable awning or a pergola. All being said I would have given the home a 5 star rating except for the fact that we did not have the hot tub during our stay and the deck gave some of us splinters in our feet with one of them being my 6 year old granddaughter. She wasn't very happy about it either. This is a beautiful home and we would love to rent it again simply based on the location."

  • Beautiful Home - Great Location

"This was a great place for our family to get together, play games, go hiking, watch the big football game on a nice TV, enjoy a fire in the outdoor fire pit and just relax. We'll be back!"

  • "This is the best cabin ever!" according to my kids

"The cabin was larger than expected! We arrived and as the kids ran around discovering mountain bikes, a hot tub, large bedrooms, a cellar, and a hammock chair all surrounded by mountains and the sound of a running river, I overheard one of them exclaim "this is the best cabin ever!". My teenage amateur photographer spent one afternoon roaming and taking scenic pictures of flowers, cabins, tee-pees, and the river. Just for fun they set up a tent and spent one night outdoors. We met some of the neighbors on our rambles and they were all friendly! It's about a 20-25 minute drive from Fort Collins so you can still go into town for a movie or to one of the small cafes in town (we were in town for a wedding). This was a lovely place to stay and we would go again!!!"
