"We (husband & wife) stayed at Tyra Chalet for 5 months (from May to September) and had a great time! The condo is on the ground floor in a quiet section of the building (for half the time there weren't any occupants in the surrounding apartments). The apartment is small, but very well laid out and furnished, so we never felt cloistered. The kitchen is very well equipped and the king-size bed was comfortable. There's building-wide WiFi, which was fast enough for regular browsing and video streaming with our Roku (there's also cable TV). The only thing the apartment lacks is a private outdoor area - there is a small area to sit just outside the front door, but if there are people staying at the neighboring apartment, the lack of privacy becomes apparent. It's an easy 10 minute walk down the ski run into town where you can relax by the river or enjoy the many cafes and restaurants. Even at its busiest, Breck still has a charming small town feel, embedded in a stunning landscape.
During our time there we saw foxes, deer, moose, and plenty of chipmunks. We missed an incident in town when a bear decided to take a walk down the middle of Main Street (we saw it that evening on social media), but it was a good safety reminder that there are bears in the area (though we never saw any on our hikes).
The condo is located right on the ski run, which is great in summer because you can just hike up and around the maze of runs and trails. You can even hike from the apartment up to the 12,998 ft summit of Peak 8, although we took a chair lift up to Vista Haus (around 11,000 ft) via the Breck Fun Park and then hiked the rest of the way. The condo is also across the street from the Sawmill Trail, which takes you on an easy, wooded hike up to a tranquil reservoir.
The town has an excellent supermarket (City Market, a few minutes drive from the condo), but we also did some of our shopping at Whole Foods in Frisco (about 15-20min away).
Summer & autumn are a great time to be in Breck, with wonderful weather and many activities & events in town, such as the international arts festival, July 4th celebrations, the rubber duck race, and more. It seemed like there was always something going on in town.
All in all we highly recommend this condo for both long or short stays. Tom and Myra were always a pleasure to deal with - communicative, prompt and friendly!"
