  • Kids rate this better vacation than Disney!

"This place was perfect! Jim & Deb have thought of it all! Went hiking on the property to come across where someone started to mine and found a pick and shovel nearby. It was one of the favorite spots for the kids. They loved going up there to mine in an attempt to strike it rich. There was so much for the kids to do outside, it was hard getting them in at night. From the swings, the mine, the fort, the hot tub, panning for gold in the creek, hiking, playing in the creek, fishing in the creek, feeding the horses, and campfires, it was hard to plan time away from the cabin. We stayed at the cabin with another family, to make up 4 adults and 5 kids ranging in age from 6 to 10. We all slept very comfortably. Last November we took a vacation trip together to Walt Disney World. All the kids rated this vacation a better one than our trip to Disney. It was also very nice to be able to sit at the kitchen table in the morning and have breakfast with all 9 of us being able to comfortably sit at the table. They even have board games for those rainy days. One rainy night we played Bingo. We are already planning on a return trip next year. Some of the local activities we did: Hiked Garden of the Gods, which was beautiful; rode the cog railroad to the top of Pike's Peak; hiked the Manitou Incline, very interesting and fun? and a must; took kids to the Amusement Arcade in Manitou Springs and then had the best ice cream; visited Paradox Brewery, an excellent brewery!; had dinner at a local dude ranch, M lazy C Ranch; rented an off road vehicle (a Polaris side by side) from Big D's and went off-roading on trails in The Pike National Forest which was just minutes from the cabin. Thanks for the perfect vacation Jim & Deb! One we will talk about for ages."

  • Beyond already-high expectations

"Having seen the photos, we were ready to be impressed, and were not disappointed. Already lots of discussion here about this view, but it truly does have to be experienced to get the full effect. We were fortunate enough to be there in early September with near perfect weather, and were treated to a morning view of magnificent snow-capped peaks for a full 180 degrees (the house is perfectly situated to get the max impact of the view through the giant rear window wall, as well as the deck). Years ago we spent some time in the Swiss Alps, and it's not an exaggeration to say this section of the Rockies stands up pretty well in the comparison. Go and enjoy, you'll be glad you did."

  • Great house and great memories!!!

"This place is everything it says and more. The pictures do not do this place justice. The views alone are worth the trip. We arrived right after Christmas and everything was snow covered. The house was stocked with everything we needed from toilet paper to linens. The temperature dropped to -9 degrees and the house remained cozy. Internet worked great and the game room was a wonderful plus. The roads were well maintained even when it snowed 6 inches one day. Can't say enough about this property. Would love to come back in the spring."

  • An UNBEATABLE stay!

"My wife, myself, and our two kids (aged 6 and 10) stayed at this cabin for 4 nights in late March, and there wasn’t a single thing about the entire experience we would change. Kim, the cabin manager, was incredibly helpful, flexible and responsive, and the cabin itself exceeded our expectations in every way. The wide-wide view from the cabin across the San Luis Valley is simply astonishing. It includes the sand dunes, the Sangre di Cristos, and stretches an incredible 180 miles from the Collegiate Peaks to the north to the mountains of the San Juan to the south. But it wasn’t just the view – the cabin itself would have made a worthy base even without it. The beds were comfortable – we all slept well. The nights were peacefully quiet; songbirds announced each dawn. The kitchen was superbly stocked with all the utensils we needed to cook every meal, and the living area was far larger, better furnished and filled with light and space than we expected from the photos. And then there were all the little details: the cleanliness of the place upon arrival, the great stock of firewood, the children’s and other books, the cabin’s decorations… they all added to the pleasure of being there and increased the great feeling of comfort. We didn’t turn on the TV or music center once. My 10-year old, who typically loves his hour of TV a day, said: “I could live without a TV after this!” To me, that says everything. With the cabin as our (hard-to-leave) base we explored the sand dunes, the Zappata Canyon, and the Colorado Gator center, and the combination of these adventures and the perfect base made our stay one of the most fun and fulfilling of short vacations we’ve ever enjoyed. I hesitated in writing this review… I’d hate to play a part in making the cabin so popular it becomes harder to book because of increased demand… but ultimately I had to comment honestly. If we can, we will definitely return."
