"Very quiet and well furnished. We enjoyed it very much although you have to drive to any services like food, grocery, golf, fishing etc...."

  • Nice home

"Nice home, comfortable furniture, lots of cozy blankets. The loft is huge and the kids enjoyed this sleeping area. This home is at a pretty high altitude, over 8000 feet, and some members of our party had trouble sleeping this high up and suffered from some high altitude sickness."

  • Beautiful home in beautiful location

"The Elk River home served as our base for a week in the mountains. The house was very clean and spacious, with plenty of space for our group of six adults and four children. The deck over the river was our favorite spot to start the day with coffee and some wildlife. A buck greeted us one morning while getting a drink from the river. We cooked several meals and were impressed with the stocked kitchen. We needed very little besides the food. South Fork was a great, central location that made for easy day trips to Creede, Pagosa Springs, and even Durango. We found several close hiking areas that accommodated our wide age and ability range and made for some beautiful mountain photos. Rafting the Rio Grande with Mountain Man Tours was also a highlight, along with horseback riding at Cottonwood Cove. The owners were wonderful to work with and were responsive to all our questions. We can't wait to get back to the Elk River house and are already discussing a ski trip!"

  • Another great stay for the snowboarders again A++++++++

"This is the third time we have rented this lodge and as normal it was great. Clean upon arrival and had everything like before in the past. Roomy, warm, easy access, and close to Wolf Creek. Local stores are close, it just all works out very well. Do not hesitate to stay here as its one of the best if not the best deal in South Fork. We will be back again!!!"

South Fork Travel Tips

When you decide to stay in South Fork cabins, you are surrounding yourself with two million acres of national forest land. South Fork, Colorado is located between the San Juan and Rio Grande forests and along the Rio Grande River. The setting is beautiful no matter what season you choose to visit but it is an especially popular area in the winter because of the skiing. South Fork has an elevation of over 8,000 feet and the ski areas receive an average of 400 inches of snow each year.

Great Fishing Right Outside South Fork Cabins

South Fork lodging puts you close to some of the top locations for fly fishing in the country. The upper portion of the Rio Grande River is known for trophy size trout. Whether you are after browns or rainbow trout, they are in abundance here. The scenery is unlike any other spot for fly fishing as well. Part of the fun of fishing the Rio Grande is the beauty along the river which ranges from a small, quick moving stream to long, wide flats.

Outdoor Activities Are in Abundance

There is much more to do than just great fishing when you stay in South Fork cabins. During the warm weather seasons, hiking, biking, hunting and horseback riding are popular activities. In the winter months, the focus turns to skiing and snowboarding. You can find excellent ski areas close to South Fork lodging including the Wolf Creek Ski Area which boasts the most snow and best powder in Colorado.

Check out the Silver Thread Scenic Byway

One of the top things to do while staying in South Central Colorado vacation rentals is to go for a drive on a mountain road that offers spectacular vistas. The Silver Thread Scenic Byway is the path miners used to take during the gold rush days to get into South Fork.
