"My wife, myself, and our two kids (aged 6 and 10) stayed at this cabin for 4 nights in late March, and there wasn’t a single thing about the entire experience we would change. Kim, the cabin manager, was incredibly helpful, flexible and responsive, and the cabin itself exceeded our expectations in every way. The wide-wide view from the cabin across the San Luis Valley is simply astonishing. It includes the sand dunes, the Sangre di Cristos, and stretches an incredible 180 miles from the Collegiate Peaks to the north to the mountains of the San Juan to the south. But it wasn’t just the view – the cabin itself would have made a worthy base even without it. The beds were comfortable – we all slept well. The nights were peacefully quiet; songbirds announced each dawn. The kitchen was superbly stocked with all the utensils we needed to cook every meal, and the living area was far larger, better furnished and filled with light and space than we expected from the photos. And then there were all the little details: the cleanliness of the place upon arrival, the great stock of firewood, the children’s and other books, the cabin’s decorations… they all added to the pleasure of being there and increased the great feeling of comfort. We didn’t turn on the TV or music center once. My 10-year old, who typically loves his hour of TV a day, said: “I could live without a TV after this!” To me, that says everything. With the cabin as our (hard-to-leave) base we explored the sand dunes, the Zappata Canyon, and the Colorado Gator center, and the combination of these adventures and the perfect base made our stay one of the most fun and fulfilling of short vacations we’ve ever enjoyed. I hesitated in writing this review… I’d hate to play a part in making the cabin so popular it becomes harder to book because of increased demand… but ultimately I had to comment honestly. If we can, we will definitely return."
