  • Thanksgiving at Sun Mountain Retreat - FANTASTIC FAMILY Vacation - November 2014

"Our experience at Sun Mountain Retreat began with a very warm welcome from Bob and Karen! We arrived earlier than expected and they both made us feel like family. We had our very well behaved furry child - Daisy - with us and Karen immediately greeted her with so much love - it warmed our hearts. The lodge is very rustic and exceptionally built for large families. The open floor plan is fabulous for family gatherings. We cooked large meals everyday to include our Thanksgiving dinner and it was so nice to watch the grandkids play in the yard while I was in the kitchen. Every morning (and various times during the day) we had the pleasure of seeing deer families grazing in the yard. While there is no cable or satellite - we were blessed with God's "TV". The beauty of nature, the mountains, and surrounded by family. The first couple days the weather was too cold for the grandchildren to play outdoors but there were plenty of inside activities and games to keep the kiddos busy. By mid week the weather was warmer and the kids and their Dad's took the challenge of hiking the mountain in search of hidden treasure. They had a great experience and found the "treasure"! The outdoor playground entertained the grandkids for many hours as well~~ We recommend this vacation home for anyone wishing to have a great family escape from the hustle bustle of the daily grind. It‘s a perfect place to experience with the important things in life - family - nature - and spirituality. There is a reason this is known as Sun Mountain Retreat...it truly is!"

  • location, price and all comfortable amenities

"our first ever visit for autumn colors in CO. We had 12 in our group with two little yorkies. The house had plenty of blankets, towels, BIG kitchen, two refrigerators (all filled up on arrival!) Saved money on kennel with the owners having a love for their animals (this is the place for next year). House is large and accommodated our grandparents downstairs with their own section of the house. Fishing was excellent the first day with poles here on arrival. We don't get together enough but this mini get away is what the doctor ordered. Marsha and Ben Utah"

  • Kids rate this better vacation than Disney!

"This place was perfect! Jim & Deb have thought of it all! Went hiking on the property to come across where someone started to mine and found a pick and shovel nearby. It was one of the favorite spots for the kids. They loved going up there to mine in an attempt to strike it rich. There was so much for the kids to do outside, it was hard getting them in at night. From the swings, the mine, the fort, the hot tub, panning for gold in the creek, hiking, playing in the creek, fishing in the creek, feeding the horses, and campfires, it was hard to plan time away from the cabin. We stayed at the cabin with another family, to make up 4 adults and 5 kids ranging in age from 6 to 10. We all slept very comfortably. Last November we took a vacation trip together to Walt Disney World. All the kids rated this vacation a better one than our trip to Disney. It was also very nice to be able to sit at the kitchen table in the morning and have breakfast with all 9 of us being able to comfortably sit at the table. They even have board games for those rainy days. One rainy night we played Bingo. We are already planning on a return trip next year. Some of the local activities we did: Hiked Garden of the Gods, which was beautiful; rode the cog railroad to the top of Pike's Peak; hiked the Manitou Incline, very interesting and fun? and a must; took kids to the Amusement Arcade in Manitou Springs and then had the best ice cream; visited Paradox Brewery, an excellent brewery!; had dinner at a local dude ranch, M lazy C Ranch; rented an off road vehicle (a Polaris side by side) from Big D's and went off-roading on trails in The Pike National Forest which was just minutes from the cabin. Thanks for the perfect vacation Jim & Deb! One we will talk about for ages."
