  • Westcliffe Vacation

"My husband and I really enjoyed staying at the cabin. It gave us a sense of how it will be when we move up to Westcliffe. Everyone in the community is very friendly and we have a lot in common. We didn’t see a bear but there were herds of deer with lots of babies. They were quite cute and curious. Two fawns actually came up to the back window of the cabin and looked in."

  • Beautiful Gem in Downtown Salida

"This is the perfect place to stay in Salida. Great location near the river, shops and restaurants; a walk to everything. The loft is beautifully decorated and the beds are really comfortable. An open, gourmet kitchen was great for making all our elaborate breakfasts before heading out to mountain bike all day. The AC worked great on one of the hot days of our stay. Ellen was really good about getting back to us right away when we had a question. It was such a treat to be surrounded by such elegant taste, furniture, art, decorations etc. that is not typical for a rental unit. This will be our first place to try and book the next time we are in town."

  • Great Cabin in the Woods!

"Our family stayed for two nights and couldn't have been more perfect. Plenty of room and close to town. Easy to get around. Our dog had plenty of room outside. Cozy and loved that it had a mountain feel. The loft was great for our 16 year old. Bed was soft......loved it. Erin was great at getting back to me with all my questions.....cable was good. Just wish there was wifi.....no worries. When on vacation sometimes maybe it is better without it!!!!!!! Will stay again for sure.....makesure if you stay to try out Mountain Pizza!!!!!!! Leadville is the best!!!!! Loved it."

  • Cozy Family Fun

"What a fun week in Monarch, CO! We arrived late at night and arrived to tons of snow, so the advice for 4 wheel drive was definitely appreciated as we would have had trouble without it. We travelled with another family of 4 and having multiple rooms and sleeping arrangements easily accommodated 4 adults and 4 children. The cabin was rustic, well-appointed, and had the perfect living area for all of us to crash in comfort after a long day of skiing so we could re-live the day's ski adventures. The kitchen table was huge and wonderfully sat all of us for meals together. The cabin was just a short distance from the ski area. We had no disappointments during our stay and loved the snow covered creek next to the cabin nestled in the trees."

South Central Travel Tips

Southern Colorado Vacation Rentals Offer Beauty in the Mountains

Southern Colorado is an area that’s full of rugged high desert plains and a collection of up to 14,000-foot peaks, rivers that gush with whitewater rapids during the spring, beautiful red-rock outcroppings, and towering sand dunes that are dwarfed by the mountain range set behind them. South Central Colorado was first explored in 1806, some three years after the U.S. made the Louisiana Purchase. A man named Zebulon Pike led the first scouting expedition to what is now known as Pikes Peak but he never actually climbed the mountain that was eventually named after him.

Southern Colorado is well worth a few days of exploration on your vacation due to the vast wonderland of activities and adventures that you and the entire family can embark upon. Southern Colorado vacation rentals and Southern Colorado vacation homes will place you in the heart of the back country. Here, you can set off on a whitewater rafting journey, shop in the historical towns and cities, bike, hike, mountain climb and much more. Imagine spending your vacation in a Lake George cabin deep in the woods near a fishing stream. This can make for a perfectly relaxing vacation, especially since you are never too far from civilization when you need it.

Southern Colorado vacation rentals are complete with all of the amenities needed for your trip. You can enjoy a luxury cabin complete with as many bedrooms as you choose. There are also full baths, living quarters, spacious kitchens, modern electronics such as big screen televisions, DVD players, radios and more. Many of the rentals also have large patios or wraparound decks that are perfect for barbecuing or simple lounging. No need to bring towels, cookware, extra blankets or any other items from home, as these rentals are fully loaded with everything to accommodate you and the family.

Tons to do and see Near Southern Colorado Vacation Homes

Besides the beautiful mountains in the southern Colorado region, there is a ring of smaller cities that offer many alluring attractions. For instance, at the foot of Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs vacation rentals offer visitors a chance to step back in time to when the Gold Rush was booming after the discovery of gold in the local spring water. The Gold Rush of the 19th century helped to shape the city’s history and modernity, and today, this has given visitors that opportunity to access the numerous trails and embrace the history of this part of the Rockies.

To the west of the Rockies lies the Royal Gorge and the Florissant Fossil Beds. These two magnificent places are worth a day trip on any vacation. The Royal Gorge offers a chanced to take a literal walk through the ages as this canyon is 1,250 feet deep and 50 feet wide. It’s one of the deepest canyons, while the Florissant Fossil Beds are home to the most amazing fossils you’ll ever see in your lifetime. Thousands of visitors come to see these amazing petrified remains of redwoods, ancient animals and trace fossils

Travel a bit farther from your Southern Colorado lodging and you will discover nearby Cripple Creek vacations, where you can try your luck at low-stakes gambling and other activities. Pueblo and Canon City offer rafting trips, historical museums, camping grounds, mountain biking and superior hiking trails, especially in the San Isabel and Pike national forests. Mountain climbers can brave the Collegiate Peaks near Buena Vista and Salida.

Summer Fun and Winter Bliss at Southern Colorado Vacation Homes

Summer is always a great time to plan a vacation to Colorado. With over 300 days of annual sunshine, the summer months are some of the best in the west. It’s never too hot here as the highs are usually in the mid to low 80s. This makes for a very comfortable summer vacation, as many travelers try to avoid extremely high temperatures in the summertime.

Winter can be great fun for a vacation in the Rockies as well. You can hit the slopes and enjoy almost any snow-related activities that you can think of. Nearly 300 inches of snow fall here every year bring skiers, snowboarders and winter sports fanatics from all over the globe. You can expect to see the first snowfall around September, although it usually snows somewhere in the state every month, except for August (usually). Rainfall for the state brings 16.5 inches each year.

Getting to Southern Colorado Lodging

Most of the time when you fly to Colorado, you will land at Denver International Airport (also known as DIA), and from here, you can rent a car to continue the rest of your journey to Southern Colorado.

There are several highways in the Southern Colorado region that will take you into any of the surrounding cities in the area. However, one of the major highways used in the southernmost part of Colorado is I-25. This highway runs through Las Animas County which is the largest county in the state. I-25 runs straight through almost all of the other cities along the I-25 Corridor and other highways branch out from it. You can find your way to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains from here as well as other popular destinations like Trinidad, Lathrop State Park and Cuchara Ski Resort.
