  • beautiful home

"The property is absolutely beautiful - the common spaces of this house and the views are amazing. The bedrooms are fairly large -- four private bedrooms with king beds, and the fifth dorm like bedroom filled with a mix of beds and air mattresses. Everyone who stayed with us really enjoyed the place, and noted that it would be perfect for family reunions. Although I had a few minor issues during our stay, I found that both the owner and property manager really care about the satisfaction of their customers and worked to correct any issues. One important thing to note - expect to disconnect... you are in the mountains so there is virtually no cell service, and the property uses satellite internet, which is extremely slow and can only support one or two devices at a time. For us, this was a plus, but for many, it may not be. Also, if you are an avid ping-pong player, be aware there is a crack in the table -- it's still functional, but can make the balls bounce a little wonky."

  • Elk Haus 2nd week of Archery season 2014

"We had a great time during our stay at Elk Haus. The cabin and facilities were awesome. The elk were there during our visit. This was my first archery elk hunt and our guide was called away for a family emergency. As rookies we were still able to call many bulls in but unable to get a shot. Even without a kill it was an outstanding experience. This is a remote and rugged location so it's not for the faint of heart."

  • Perfect Getaway Cabin

"My husband and I stayed in this lovely cabin for several days as part of our annual Colorado vacation. The cabin was perfect and fully met all of our expectations. It is located in a gated community as stated, and it was everything we were looking for. If you don't mind driving several miles back dirt roads (which are well-maintained), and if you want to see a lot of wildlife, then this is the cabin for you! We bought supplies at a grocery store in Pueblo and made most of our meals in the cabin. While there, we enjoyed a drive along the Highway of Legends, CO Highway 12, from La Veta to Trinidad which was absolutely beautiful, especially in September! We also took another day to drive to Antonito and catch a ride on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. We actually made our reservations beforehand and decided to ride their bus from Antonito to Chama, NM, and then ride the train back to Antonito. We highly recommend this train ride... it was amazing and spectacular! This is a great getaway place for those seeking privacy, seclusion and beauty! There are enough nearby interesting places to check out if you want, but it is also a great place to just sit back, kick your feet up and relax!"

"This is a wonderful home which is most accurately described as remote. It is a comfortable home that is charming and well appointed. I would recommend this home for people wanting to be in a natural mountain setting. It is remote, so don't stay here if you're looking for places to shop and dine out. Don't arrive in a Corvette as there is a long gravel road to travel from the park gate to the home. It's perfect if you want to hike and just relax in the deep mountains. The owner stays in an apartment in the basement and leaves you alone unless you invite her in, which I would suggest, as she's fun and interesting. Great place for families. I would recommend this to family and friends. We'll definitely stay here again."
