  • Peaceful Retreat

"Our stay at the yurt was peaceful and relaxing. We had all the amenities we needed and more! Air conditioning for the summer, fireplace for the cooler days. A wonderful deck surrounds the yurt with a hot tub and a walkway to sit over the river. We were able to cook our meals when we wanted and were a short drive to some great eateries when we wanted to eat out. Our dog also had a great time exploring the property and sleeping in the sun!"

  • Home away from home!

"The owners clearly take pride in this property. It is clean and comfortable without the aesthetic sterility and mindless fanciness of most hotels and condos.. this place actually feels like home, right down to the very well equipped kitchen, fully stocked linens, stereo, and wifi. The backyard is a pleasant place to be, and the property is right in the heart of town. A week's stay won't make you a local, but you'll at least get to live like one."

  • Perfect getaway vacation home.

"This house was perfect for our family and friends. Great views, deer and wild turkey all over the place. Our kids loved the apple trees and we ate our fair share also. Fun basket ball court out back also. We will be back for sure."

  • Our Summer 2014 Family Reunion

"Lovely setting on the Gunnison which was swimmable and fishable during our July 26-Aug 2 stay. Good sleeping arrangements (all beds were great!) among the three buildings which are a hiking distance apart. The Bunkhouse has one small window and sliding screen door. The nearby Caretakers thoughtfully provided their own cooler which helped with ventilation, as the nights were quite warm. Convenient laundry facilities in the Homestead - 2 private rooms plus generous kitchen also there. Train passes very closeby, day and night. It's 100 cars pass slowly, but are noisy, waking some of the adults. All kids slept thru it tho. We'd order rubber wheels for that train! Tho the highway runs above the site, we were not bothered by traffic noise. The Dome was our headquarters. The kitchen is dark, but well-appointed; the screen doors do not seal adequately, allowing hoardes of night-flyer bugs easy entry. This made for difficult night reading in bed. We reported this defect to owners, who claimed they intend to improve the fit of the screen doors. The deck of The Dome is great for casual gathering and viewing the scene down at the river. It was was clean inside with numerous comfortable couches and a high table with seating for 8. We made puzzles and played many a rousing game there! We prepared and served all our meals from the Dome kitchen. The provided croquet set was mostly broken, and, tho all the pool cue sticks lacked tips, the table and balls were fine. The inflatable rafts inflated well with our electric compressed air tire pump. We were very glad to have these water toys available for our use. Our family group had 5 adults, 5 teenagers and one 7-yr old. As grandparents, we slept in our 35' motorhome which the site accommodated with no problem. We took happy advantage of nearby wineries; the local grocery store in Paonia has an amazing variety of standard and natural foods. Local fruit/veggie stands were beginning to stock with local harvests. This site has generous outdoor space for group games - we played many lacrosse 3-by matches there. The firepit is very nice, and we were left a most generous supply of dry wood. A great place for campfire activities! We were sorry the zip-line was no longer available. Overall, this is a great place for families to gather. There's lots of space and plenty of variety in terrain and accommodations. We recommend it for teenagers as well-behaved as ours! Great time!"
