Seasonal Activities at Summit County Vacation Rentals

If it is powder you are looking for then Summit County is the place to go. With six of the country's top ski resorts in one region, Summit County hosts more than 3.4 million skiers a year. Almost three-quarters of the county is made up of national forest which is one of the reasons the area has retained its pristine natural beauty. Some of the top ski resorts include Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone, and Arapahoe Basin. Vail and Aspen are just a short drive away. There are literally hundreds of miles of groomed ski slopes catering for all levels of skiing abilities. Snowboarding terrain parks are available for those who want to hone and show off their skills.

Other winter activities include dog sledding, cross country skiing, snowshoe tours, scenic sleigh rides and snowmobiling. There are always a number of entertaining activities happening as the different towns and resorts in season. In the summer months, you can head out on the mountain trails and explore endlessly. If hiking is your passion, there are several day hikes in the region. Many people visit to enjoy the great mountain biking trails that wind their way through the forests and up the mountains. Summit County is within easy driving distance of Denver International Airport. The airport hosts regularly scheduled flights on all major airlines in the United States and Canada. Denver also has good air links to major cities that have flight connections from Europe and other parts of the world. To get to Summit County from Denver, you can either hire a car and drive or make use of one of the many seasonal shuttle services. If you want to visit more than one of the ski resorts in the area, it is often a good idea to have your own car to get around.

Choose the Season to Visit Summit County

Summit County in Colorado is home to some of America's top ski resorts. For this reason, many people think of Summit County as purely a winter sports vacation destination. Indeed, the snowfalls are generally excellent and the number of snow sports available are very diverse; however, it is equally an exciting summer vacation destination. The season to visit will depend mostly on your vacation and sporting interests. Perhaps you'll decide that you want to return for both your summer and winter vacations. The ski season generally starts in early December, or a week or two after the first solid snowfalls. In general, depending on temperatures and snowfalls, the season runs until early to mid-April. The busiest time of year, in terms of the ski season, is from December through to February. The summer vacation season starts in June and runs until September. The peak summer season is generally during July and August.
