  • Enjoyed Our Stay

"Family vacation at this home was great; very quiet neighborhood, plenty of room for all of us (7 adults and 3 children)! Tons of bath towels! There were 2 TVs in the main living space which was great for the children to watch their shows while the adults watched theirs. A couple of the bedrooms also had tvs. Yard was big enough for the children to play in and with the use of lawn chairs and our beach chairs, we made a "fence" so the children and their ball did not go over the "cliff". Met a friendly neighbor who gave us insight into restaurants and beach areas. This house is not on what I would call a beach, there is no sand and although you could get into the water from the shore, it was difficult for the children (4 and younger) who ended up with many scratches, bruises and bleeding knees. Husband and children loved going out in the kayak! We all loved spending time sitting on the porch overlooking the Sound. It would be helpful if there was a book of directions to restaurants and/or menus, directions to local grocery areas and local beaches. Would also be helpful if you had a cabinet or two available for guests to put their food and kitchen items in. Fran was very easy to work with and very accommodating! Thanks Fran!"

  • Great Location!

"The location provided the opportunity to walk to the (free) Town Beach, many restaurants (Michael's Dairy for ice cream was fabulous), Dunkin Donuts, and the Eugene O'Neil house. We were close by car to Ocean Beach, Mystic Seaport, and many historic sites in New London. The owners very thoughtfully provided a free pass to Ocean Beach. The house itself suited our needs perfectly. The backyard accommodated 20 people for an informal luncheon and the front porch was ideal for quiet conversation. The eat in kitchen was a gathering spot every morning. We enjoyed the feeling of moving into "grandmother's house" with a good variety of books, games, and toys around for all ages. We were however, disappointed with a variety of housekeeping issues. The place had obviously not had a good thorough cleaning in quite a while. Cleaning supplies were not well organized, making it difficult for us to clean during our stay and at check out. It took a day of searching to find the cables for the DVD player. While we appreciate having basic condiments and supplies left from previous tenants (we ourselves left dish liquid for the next tenants), so much had been left in the cabinets and refrigerator it was difficult to find space for the food we had brought. Most of our food had to be left on the counter as there was no cabinet space available. Overall, the dust and cobwebs as well as other obvious issues, made it clear that the house had not been thoroughly cleaned before our arrival. In conclusion - we loved the location and ambiance of the house and would probably stay here again. We give it Five Stars for location and 3 1/2 Stars for Housekeeping."

  • Great family vacation on the CT shoreline

"We booked this in July 2014 and enjoyed a week at 'Little White Top', named after the rocky reef area that surrounds the point. Everyone in the family loved it ... quiet, quaint, a genuine old school gem of a seasonal home with a fantastic protected waterfront location. I kayaked daily, including a couple of longer trips up the nearby river and across the open water to the Falkner Island lighthouse which is now a bird sanctuary. It's a 3 mile crossing so not for the casual kayaker or rough windy days. But there are many great places to kayak to for all skill levels. The coastline here is great to explore with 2 beautiful parks in the area one just a 10 min paddle (or bike ride), beaches, and you can also paddle as far as the Thimble Islands on a nice day. The house was perfect for us with plenty of bedrooms, and the two half baths plus nice shower accessed from the backyard. No TV was great, and nicely balanced by the rock solid WiFi connection. Kitchen had everything we needed and was a pleasure to cook in. Nice to have the 5 gallon drinking water supplies available. We swam both off the rocks and off the little beach just 4 doors down, where you could also keep kayaks if you prefer to launch from a beach. If you swim off the rocks it helps to use water shoes, as it's slippery. The screened porch is fantastic and we spent many a family night there having dinner and playing board games. The view across the bay is great, particularly around July 4th when lots of fireworks are viewable. Just loved it, and the owners were great too, very friendly and easy to work with. Highly recommended, we hope to come back!"

  • Perfect place for a Family Rreunion

"It would be hard to find a more lovely and historic setting to reunite 4 generations than this Connecticut home. From the moment you step out of your car you feel at home. The feeling continues as you move into Erle's magical house. The lovely entry, the delightful kitchen, looking towards the "Old Toy Factory" across the road, the large living room and the cozy den provide places for families to either be together or separate for reading and other activities. This property has a large yard with a river running through it and plenty of room to roam or just sit and enjoy the sounds and sights of the Connecticut country side. If you look into the history of the neighborhood you will discover even more things to make your stay memorable. Thank you Erle for providing such a wonderful place for our family reunion."
