  • Idyllic

"i·dyl·lic: extremely happy, peaceful, or picturesque. That's such a perfect word to describe our time in the Henkle House. Here's why: Location - the best thing about this place is the proximity to the beach. You are about 100 steps to the gate that gets you onto the private beach. The owner left us plenty of wrist bands that private beach goers must use. Ocean Beach Park is 25 ft to the right of the private beach so there is super easy access. Renovated house - the house has been recently renovated and belongs in the pages of a catalog. the owner went first class all the way - frontgate outdoor furniture, outdoor kitchen, pottery barn bedding, pier 1 accessories. I've never been in a rental that has been so carefully and beautifully decorated. So relaxing! Great for kids - Ocean Beach Park kept the kids easily entertained, cloudy or sunny. mini-golf, splash park, amusement rides, beach, playground, digging for crabs. At the end of each day, we stuck all five kids (mostly toddlers) upstairs to sleep on the 3rd floor. There was a TV in there so they could watch a movie at the end of the day and fall asleep. I honestly don't know why this area isn't jammed all summer long but I am grateful that it hasn't yet been discovered. This house was a perfect place for us - launching pad for Ocean Beach Park activities and relaxing for the granddad who preferred to read on the beautiful outdoor deck. We hope to come back for years to come."

  • Perfect place for a Family Rreunion

"It would be hard to find a more lovely and historic setting to reunite 4 generations than this Connecticut home. From the moment you step out of your car you feel at home. The feeling continues as you move into Erle's magical house. The lovely entry, the delightful kitchen, looking towards the "Old Toy Factory" across the road, the large living room and the cozy den provide places for families to either be together or separate for reading and other activities. This property has a large yard with a river running through it and plenty of room to roam or just sit and enjoy the sounds and sights of the Connecticut country side. If you look into the history of the neighborhood you will discover even more things to make your stay memorable. Thank you Erle for providing such a wonderful place for our family reunion."

  • Charming & great comfy beds

"Loved the house. The beds were such a treat after our long road trip up from Georgia. The kitchen could've used more pots/pans/bowls/cookie sheets, etc... (although tons of plates & glasses). It was great to have all of the Kleenex & TP supplied. The house is right on Main Street, so if you like peace and quiet to go to sleep, you will not get that. Traffic zooms by all the time...but we were fine with that. The listing above mentions WiFi, but the actual house doesn't have WiFi, that is located at the hotel. Also, the TV stations are very limiting in the house. ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, TBS & the Weather Channel - and that's about it. An update to the TV selection would be a great improvement - MSNBC, ESPN, Disney Channel, CNN, HGTV, just to name a few. The best part was the Christmas tree that was waiting for us in the house. It was soooooooo special to our kids (and the grown ups too!!!!!) It was so nice to wake up Christmas morning and have the presents under a tree. Thanks for letting us put the decorations on too! What a special, unexpected treat. We were still in the house when the 12/26 blizzard hit. The guys were there before the snow started laying down salt/sand and they were quick to get us plowed out. We will return!!!! The Mittleiders"

  • Lovely seaside house

"This is a lovely old New England house with a spectacular porch and spacious indoor rooms. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bedrooms are just as pictured. The fifth bedroom is tucked up in the attic so only usable in the summer. We were there over Thanksgiving, a family of 5 adults and twin five-year-olds and we settled in comfortably. The owner was very responsive to a WiFi problem and despite a big storm, Comcast was on the job at 8 am. Views of Long Island Sound from all the windows. Definitely recommend it."
