  • Great time in Connecticut!

"We needed a house last minute, and when we called George he answered his phone and got us all set up. Then we loved it! George took care of our firewood (even though it was early in the season - us southerners weren't used to the chill) and made sure we had everything we needed. I ended up leaving a couple of items at the house, and he promptly mailed them to me. The house has no food items - so think about that when planning to cook - but the kitchen is neat and clean and well stocked with dishes/pots/etc. The town is beautiful - lots of lovely homes, a fun Main Street for shopping, etc. We loved the remodel on the farm house! So well done! We enjoyed easy day drives to Yale/New Haven and New York City."

  • Very, very happy with this decision

"This house was compact, clean, convenient - a delight in every way. We even managed okay with just one bath and seven people. Very near a great beach (short walking distance). And very convenient to the things we like to do as a family: Mystic Seaport; miniature golf at Saybrook Point; Gillette's Castle; Chester ferry; Essex steam train; Johnny Ad's restaurant in Old Saybrook - and especially the Deep River Fife & Drum Corps Muster on the 19th (always the 3rd Saturday in July). Grew up nearby but have lived in Texas for 20 years - and definitely will use this house as a great place for a "base of operations" when visiting the East or coming back again for the Muster."

  • A Splendid Week in a House that Felt Like Home

"Our extended family had a splendid Christmas week in this lovely home. It is difficult to know what to highlight first: the location was perfect for us, the views to LI Sound are great, we all walked in the nearby land trust, the small town of Branford was a treat to stroll. The living spaces in the home are varied so that if you are a family who only gets together once or twice a year, there are plenty of spaces to talk one on one, as well as to group up. Lots of TVs for kids who want some entertainment - I think every - or nearly every bedroom has one. One lovely touch was a great big cuddly bear on the bed of what became our kid room. It's always great to have comfort in new places and Big Boris - as we called him, was ever so thoughtful. Others have mentioned the kitchen - we came with a lot of things that experience taught us would not be there for our use (strainer, turkey baster, roasting pan) and that box got left in the car and never delved into. The kitchen is beyond well stocked. It also came with oils, vinegars, spices, etc. So generous and unexpected. The bed linens were very nice - lots and lots of good towels, many throws and pillows throughout the house as well. A huge bonus was Fran. Always an email or phone call away, always with an answer to questions, nothing too much trouble. THE BEST thing, I think, however, was how at home we all felt from the moment we stepped through the door, as if it was a place we returned to year after year - a family retreat. Quite Splendid."

  • Idyllic

"i·dyl·lic: extremely happy, peaceful, or picturesque. That's such a perfect word to describe our time in the Henkle House. Here's why: Location - the best thing about this place is the proximity to the beach. You are about 100 steps to the gate that gets you onto the private beach. The owner left us plenty of wrist bands that private beach goers must use. Ocean Beach Park is 25 ft to the right of the private beach so there is super easy access. Renovated house - the house has been recently renovated and belongs in the pages of a catalog. the owner went first class all the way - frontgate outdoor furniture, outdoor kitchen, pottery barn bedding, pier 1 accessories. I've never been in a rental that has been so carefully and beautifully decorated. So relaxing! Great for kids - Ocean Beach Park kept the kids easily entertained, cloudy or sunny. mini-golf, splash park, amusement rides, beach, playground, digging for crabs. At the end of each day, we stuck all five kids (mostly toddlers) upstairs to sleep on the 3rd floor. There was a TV in there so they could watch a movie at the end of the day and fall asleep. I honestly don't know why this area isn't jammed all summer long but I am grateful that it hasn't yet been discovered. This house was a perfect place for us - launching pad for Ocean Beach Park activities and relaxing for the granddad who preferred to read on the beautiful outdoor deck. We hope to come back for years to come."
